i cant click bin file as it is not highlighted for me to do so unless i hit FILE TYPE: channel data file.

otherwise the file type is default at: APP File only?

this is really doing my head in now!

                  To get to device manager

                  Click on start button
Move mouse to highlight My Compter
                  Right hand mouse click
Scroll down and click on Manage
                  Double click on Device Manager
                  Double click on Ports
Double click on your COM port
                  Click on Port settings
                  Click on Advanced
Now you can change the COM port number try 1 then 2,3 and 4

You need to check cable is a null one, also your com port settings on lappy and in device manager.

Loads of peeps have had probs using USB adapters to download to box so maybees best bet is to use a desktop like maca said earlier and use the dedicated 9pin serial I/O port on it.

                    JoK
my desktop doesnt have a 9pin dedicated port for cable - thats why i have the adpater - i have updated 4 boxes in the past on another laptop - but cant figure out why its not working this time? on me newer laptop -(vista) basically im plugging in the rs232 into the rear ov starview super box - switching on the box power, waiting for boot up - then connecting the usb into my lappy - i hear the dong sound in recognition? and click download on the gt rom on Comm 1 - i changed this as advice before - but still doesnt want to flash - i just get flash update fail. ??

if you've done them before it must be a problem with your new laptop! vista can be odd at times,so these guys say. can you not try previous laptop?

Try installing this drive for your RS232 & let me know if it works.
