    Starview 4 Clones

I bought 6 boxes for family and freinds. 3 of the boxes I bought are clones. The boxes worked fine until i had to put on the updated software. Now they are in the 8882 loop. The other 3 boxes which are not clones worked fine after the software update.

So in my opinion the software for the starview 4 originals is causing the clones to go into this 8882 error.

Is there anyone out there that can solve this problem ?

The latest firmware will kill the bootloader on the clone SV4s and some earlier genuine SV4s, which is a bigger issue. 8882 is caused by a bad flash.

inserting or removing flash drive while box is powered on is a big no no = 8882 you need to power off at front then back, wait 30 secs then remove flash drive.

8882 is not only caused by removing the stick or HDD, which you are told not to do either way on screen.

Some 8882 errors are caused by a format error also, usually when using a cheap mem stick. It was always a bad design flaw not keeping the RS232 port to get over these issues.

You can retro fit a serial port but that should have been done at the manufacturing stage and not for the user to carry out.

            Alex,

Where did you buy these boxes from, would be great help to prospective buyers.

            Cheers

the actual problem is not 8882 .. its 8888 -- 8882 then reboot continuously then after a short time blank led.

Used my lappy to upload software to the boxes via max232 and null modem cable.. so in my opinion it is the actual software that is the problem on the clones .. the 3 clones all goosed and the three originals all ok.

Surely one the wizz kids can solve this problem

ps got the clones from hong kong

Why ship them in from Hong Kong? They are not Starview 4s if you are using the serial port to flash them.

Once you get the box into the 8888 / 8882 / ---- loop, it will eventually boot if you keep switching it on and off. Make sure you have the appropriate files on a USB stick, insert this in the SV and keep power cycling.

Eventually you will get the boot logo - hit menu and then try the firmware upgrade from USB. This will either work fine, or fail half way through and the SV will go into bad flash mode (8882) - try the Max232 again at this point and see how you get on.

Not promising anything, but it worked for me (twice).
