With Nag3 impending should I hold off on buying my first FTA box (SV4)?

Hey everyone, I'm new to the scene and have been doing research on which box to buy. I've decided on the Starview 4 but I've also found a lot of warnings concerning Nagravision 3. Is this a silly time to be buying?

I'm on XL Vmedia TV Package mainly for the Prem matches on Setanta which has obviously just gone bust. I called them up and they said that I should be getting EPSN instead at some point. My package still has 4 months to go so they wouldn't let me downgrade to medium and just add sky sports despite it getting them 5 quid more a month which really p*ssed me off. So I decided sod 'em and started looking for a box. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Dave

p.s I have a 40" samsung LCD, would the picture quality from the SV4 be ok, assuming I use good quality cables?

first of all where abouts are you? as n3 is a bigger issue to ireland then the uk at this moment in time.

Also no one will be able to say 100% when n3 will get rolled out, could be tomorrow or in 6 months time.

I would leave it nearer the end of your contract in 4 months.
We may know more by then.

Cheers for the quick replies guys, I live in greater London. Has anyone managed to get anywhere near cracking the N3 yet?

All this talk of nagra 3 is a joke really. VM could not just roll it out that quickly, there is absolutely nothing in place to go over to that in the UK as it would take a hell of a long time to set up replacing equipment for those that don't currently have it and the massive cost for Virgin whilst we are in the grip of the worst recession in recent memory.

Its just scaremongering people who like to put on little rumours but the reality is VM are struggling financially, going over to Nag 3 just isn't gonna happen. IPTV could but even then we are talking at least 18 months away and that is possibly just as if not more expensive.

I thought the UK weren't meant to be going the n3 route, i thought they were bringing in something different from Ireland, iptv or something like that?

Ok so the general consensus is that I should go for it. Can anyone recommend a good site to purchase from. One of you said ?70, cheapest I can find is ?79 Wizard Satellite.

THE BOX SUPER USB PVR PRE-ORDER - ?79.00 : Wizard Satellite, Satellite receivers, dishes, lnbs and equipment

Just to clarify VM set up my flat with 2 connections. One in the lounge & one downstairs. Both connections came with splitters. I currently have both my modem and V+ box plugged into the split connection in the lounge and everything works fine. I have tested having V+ in the lounge and modem downstairs and that works fine too.

Does this mean that I can just move my modem back downstairs and plug the SV4 into the lounge splitter along with the V+ box? I gather from reading the forum that it would sensible to connect the SV4 directly on initial setup/scan and then implement the splitter.

                  Last thing....

Can anyone vouch for the SV4 picture quality on a 40" LCD? I have the Samsung 656 40" if thats any help. Also will I be able to leave my V+ box plugged into the tv via hdmi and then just switch over to my scart connection for Sports etc?
Again, thanks for all the advice!

I am using SV4 on the same T.V and the picture quality is fine.

i also have a subbed V Box connected and switch that to use the on demand services.

So in short YES to the above.

Thanks Shaggy. Gonna go for it. Anyone know if there is a shop in Surrey/London that I could buy it from this weekend rather than buy online. If not I guess I will have to wait. Thanks again everyone.

i havent seen any boxes on shops before. online is the best route. if a option for payment via paypal is there, use that if u are worried abt security.
