thanks for reply, but does this lead work for flashing, where did you get it from, and how do you set it up, again thanks for your help.

        re-usb to rs232 serial converter

l bought it from maplins, but maybe amazon or ebuyer might be cheaper, make sure it comes with installation disc,l think the one l bought was maplins order no.ZP43W ,the brand was Nikkai.l flashed my sv2 with it, also my sv4 to cure the dreaded 8882 error. to set it up l switched on laptop, when it had booted, plugged in converter, got 'found new hardware' message.went to control panel'add hardware'loaded installation disc.

Doesn't sound like the correct adapter if you had to use a gender changer.

Look at this guide http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-eurovox-9786/ its for the Eurovox but the instruction for Comm ports settings and cable info are the same for the Starview.

Which model of Starview is it and have you tried a reflash?

Its a starview 1 do you know if its a clone or genuine box? And if so what firmware are you trying to flash with?

Turn the box off from the back switch, hit download on Gtromloader, wait a few seconds and power up the box.

It may take a few attempts but should work.

It should have your provider, who was it?
