    Starview problem, any advice welcome!

Hi all, Can anyone help? Got a Starview box and recently bought a new plasma and for some reason the box is interfering with the sound on the tv, it ever done this on the old tv? Had a costco engineer out and he reckons its not the Tv but its the box and its not earthed around the scart connection??
As anyone else had this problem and other than slinging the box in the bin as anyone got any decent suggestions, any box repairers in manchester area???
    Thanks.

Repair might cost more than box is worth. "engineer" is most abused word
In the english language. Your binman is a "waste disposal engineer"

    From a layman;
Try new scart lead, & try different scart connections.
On TV menu make sure AV used is set to input (av 1 usually best)
From Stavu run R/W/Y lead to R/W/Y connection on TV.
I know your "COSTCO" binman has tried all these options
    So here's the Coup de Grais ;
Get 2 co-ax leads male to female (usually black in colour)
At rear of Stavu ---Link co-ax from (cableout) to (ant. in)
    -----Link (tv out) to TV
Select chl. on TV (say 0), Manual-scan, should pick up Stavu output
If noisy ----Stavu menu---Alter modulator to suit UK & if need be alter modulator value & manual scan on TV

if he w right about the earth connection ,i think it would be the same on your old tv? try fiddling with cables or altering volume with both remotes.

Come on boomer, you can do better than" fiddlin' with cables"
Surely COSTCO "binman" would have tried volume settings.

[QUOTE=JoK;249357]The other posters have pretty musc summed everything up here, different scart, rca jack plugs, volume fully up on sv4 remote(this leads to a humming through tv if it not) you have another option on the sv4 and thats svideo, does your tv have an svideo input you could try one of these leads.

You solved the noise problem JOK & perfect picture
One small problem S-VIDEO only carries video signal
So your right there'll be no noise, you'd hear a pin drop, he'll have no
sound at all. I had a box like that, gave it to local deaf & dumb school. They
          were thrilled with it
          Your not awake yet JOK

Don't be so touchy, you're always a morning grouch, now you're an
evening grouch as well. HA HA.
Vit. B6 & evening primrose oil works with "contrary" women, so maybe
there's a similiar medication for grumpy males, hope so.
You must have had some sleep yesterday, took you 5 hours to reply
to my post. You needed sleep badly, you were like a NETTLE .
Catch you later, gotta go UTD. will be hoisting another trophy later.

                  Howyu Martin,
You must be psycik, I was tragically killed earlier today.
We were approaching Cork city (Nagra1area)earlier today all ready to hit
a car boot sale. We had the trunk & back seat full to the ceiling with
Stavu 1's, 2's, & 3's from Nagra 2 country. It was all arranged, we got a
10 euro per box fee to recycle, & ready to sell them for 40 euro.
Alas , just as we were turning into car boot sale car park we were struck
at high speed by a van, the impact didn't kill us, but we were crushed by
400 stavu's from back seat. Just as I was drawing my last breath I saw
those dreaded 3 capital letters in front of my eyes. (R.I.P.?)
No it was U.P.C. , Imagine we were giving their hard pressed punters
a second box for kid's room, and they mowed us down.
All is not lost , the bould St. Peter showed me to my quarters beyond
the pearly gates. Lo & behold right before my very eyes ; Skype phone
P.C. with unlimited internet access, 2 lovely pictures hanging on the
wall. One picture said; home sweet home, that's fair enough.
The other one was fairly plain, & all x+c=z-y, I hate algebra.
Then I looks at artists signature, some unknown called NAGRA 3 FIX
Ah jaysus Peter, I says, God sent you. You couldn't make it up.

                        noise problem

Hi Had same problem on my setup.

I Bought a very good quality gold plated scart lead, noise has completely disappeared.
Cheap scart leads have Electrical resistance issues that affect sound & picture quality.

There are many scart leads out there & you get what you pay for. Cheap means cheap.

                        Hope this helps

attenuator fat-6db should do the trick
to give you the correct signal level at the back of your STB.

Too much or too little signal and you will get problems.

Glad you sorted, B. You got what you paid for & that's only right.
Some poor souls don't get what they pay for, they buy in some well known store, trusting the name. they pay ?5 for basic scart lead which works fine.
The exact same lead is ?i in Pound-------stretchers shop next door.
In relation to noise prooblems they are not usually caused by cheap
leads. Sub-standard leads can cause loss of sound & may come loose if box is moved,& are not as robust as decent quality leads.
