I have noticed a lot of posts about SV4 Usb's lately and people having problems with them. So this is just a thought, wanted to get other people's opinions on it - is it possible that if somebody has a virus on their pc, they can infect their flash drive, and that can affect the box by putting an infected file/corrupt data on it?
Updating Boxes With USB Query?

Its possible, but unlikely, plus the bin would have to be infected which is unlikely. Although you could call a clone killing firmware to be an infected file to a clone box, but yet its a genuine firmware update but with a script that will kill the bootloader on a clone, once it has made a few queries first.I have noticed a lot of posts about SV4 Usb's lately and people having problems with them. I do see what you are saying in relation to flash drives, but its only the bin file you are transferring. In most cases you will format the drive, if it's a small mem stick via the SV4. Or as you know if it's a larger drive via your PC with an application like swissknife or other similar apps. So by formatting the drive/mem stick you are cleaning it and then just adding the bin file.
The problem in relation to the SV4 and the 8882 boot fault is usually caused by a bad (cheap) mem stick. Most of the ones supplied with the box as an add on are quite cheap. Other 8882 faults are caused by using the wrong firmware and so a bad flash. However other 8882's are caused by bad manufacture in some batches. So it's not always a user error.
V1.12 will stop the bootloader error in genuine boxes only but not the 8882 error.
I bet I still have not answered your query
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer. - Douglas AdamsComment

near enough anyway as it was something my next door neighbour has a virus on pc acting very strange and his antivirus had stopped working a while ago and he lost his broadband at the same time,i was told a friend plugged in there flash drive to his pc [ trojan or virus ] and maybe transferred it to pc also, hence i asked eva to put up a post.
wonder how many people scan their flashdrives for bugs?Comment

Why did you not put up the post/query? The query was in relation to the SV4 and a flash drive hence why I mentioned the bin file. If you are working with a clean binary then there should be no problem.
A mem stick or any flash drive is essential a hard drive, so yes its possible to infect any pc from one and yes you should scan each one before using it. However this is more of a pc related issue and can be answered with more consistency in our pc section.I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer. - Douglas AdamsComment
