Starview The Box PVR twin tuner - HELP!

    Hi
You seem to be sensible and know waht you are on about.

    I need help

I have The Box PVR twin tuner

For some reason it has lost all data after power cut!

I am trying to flash my box but don't really know what to do.

I have downloaded files (The Box PVR (Dual Tuner) AU Fix 211208) from satsmos downloads. But what do I do next.

I have files on mates laptop and connected to box with rs232 cable, connecte pert 1 but when flashing nothing happens.
How do I open the file with what program and where do I get that program from?
I have been trying for 2 weeks solid to sort this but am getting no where!
It will probably be easy once I have done it once!

Is there a step by step guide on how to complete each process?

Thanks in advance for any guidance or light you can shed on this increasingly frustrating problem.

    Cheers
    Dave

I know nothing about this box but the way I read it is (anyone feel free to correct me)

download the .bin file to a folder or desktop of your PC
connect box to PC as in instructions (it looks like the loader is built in to the box)
go through the instructions until you get to the pvr loader part
browse to your .bin file and select it to load it to the loader and then download it to your box

Is the bin file the firmware update?

I have loaded the bin file to memory stick and put it on desk top, dragged it to GTloader clicked download but nothing happens.

The box has b31 on front display as required but I cannot get this to work.....YET!

yes the .bin file is the firmware

on the pvr loader there is a com port setting check that your PC com port is set to the same

if you connect the box to your pc using a usb lead (I use my printer usb lead) it can be easier than using a rs232 null modem cable. If you press menu and highlight HDD Mode Change, enter password, default p/word is 0000 where it says PVR it should change to PC. Now you should see a new local disk on your PC.
You should be able to drag the f/w onto the new local disk. You can then update the f/w from the HDD in your box. In your menu select HDD interface then select software upgrade from HDD. HTH.

                    firmware

                    Thanks

I am trying this now, having problem with box switching on at the moment. When I switch it on a minus symbol rotates around the box screen in a clockwise direction, Once or twice and normally stops at 11 o'clock ish.
I have to keep switchin off and on to get the box to finally come on!!!

I think I have found a usb lead that will work, standard one end and fat on other as the box usb is a fat connection, don't know technical word for this.

The problem I have is I download firmware update from this site.
                    1. Do I just save the update, or open it? If I try to open it I don't have the programme to do this and windows searches for a program. I have paid for several programs from searches but can not open it.
                    Am I doing this incorrectly

                    Please help!
                    Dave

                        ok

So I save firmware to desktop.

                        Is the loader the GTloader?

I'm having trouble getting a decent connection between laptop and box.

                        My laptop doesn't have rs232!

I have usb but am struggling to connect to the box with usb, trying different leads!
