Ive got the box and my mates laptop to talk now.

Been able to send firmware to box but now the box says hdd not installed!!

Any thoughts?

I can send firmware to box but when reboots says HDD not installed? Why?

might sound like a stupid question, but do you have a hard drive in the box?

Yes it does
it shows the hard drive every now and then when I switch on.
It has only done this since firmware update!
However firware update says succesfull but when box rebbots, it goes to language selection. I press ok on English but nothing happens, sometimes it shows hdd installed sometimes it doesn't.
If I look on hdd it shows no firmware loaded. Infact there is no longer anything on hdd.

When I flash the box what should be highlighted? And am I right in thinking the firmware can be "browsed" from a memory stick?

Is there any way of putting relevant programme, firmware, software or whatever it may be to get box back to factory settings?

There appears to be nothing on it now.....is it time to use it as a door stop?

Just tried a usb a to b cable but that doesn't recognise box.

I think I am now stumped....Don't know next move, have spent more time on this than I have with my wife - And we've been married for 23 years...

Have tried that.

I connect via rs232

use loader tool 2005 version (have tried others but it asks for name of box, tried various "guessed" names, nothing works) and this allows me to drag bin file and allows me to download.
Says it is succesful and reboots but the box just goes back to select language. Select English ok then nothing. Can get to all options, scan for channels but hdd doesn't show bin file listed or allow to upload from hdd.
Sometimes hdd appears, sometimes it doesn't.

hat I have also just noiced is whenever I went through any changes on the tv it had a white screen with "the box" on it. Now a weird looking thing is on their with blades and the like.

I am wondering if the box has lost all files and needs to be factory reset - BUT I don't have relevant files to do this and they are not shown on hdd....sigh

Any thoughts?

After advice from all and Dell in particular, followed instructions and still coming up short, a bit bemused really?

If so could do with a bit of advice.
Can not connect via usb - tried and doesn't work - Why?

Done flash with rs232 cable from mates laptop, says succesful....but when scanning for channels, none found, also noticed no signal strength!

Tried various loaders and firmware but after succesfull downloads no joy finding channels.

When box switched off and on sometimes in hdd says hdd not installed, sometimes says it is!

I am at a loss with this now....any thoughts?

At last

It is done and works.....phew!

Thanks to all for sticking with me, special big up to DELL who seems part of the family now.

It is amazing how you can miss the obvious!!!

Hi

When I had the box originally I but the cable - cable into cable slot on back of box and everything worked fine.

Now for whatever reason I have to put the cable in into the block of four next to the loop. I had "read" past this when it was explained thinking it would be in original location.

It now does all it needs to....Thanks Again to All
