on the starview 3 f/w its all in one m8
thanks to dooby2oon for this
Lets just check what you will need in addition to a computer to get your Starview box up and running.
On older pc's 1 null modem cable
If your pc's newer or most laptops you may need 2 cables a usb to serial and a null modem cable pictured below
Get these from fleebay usually around ?5 to ?7 for the pair
If you have any problems with usb to serial connection follow this little tut
To see which port your USB adapter is connected to, connect your USB adapter and follow the following instructions:
1. Go to the Start Menu
2. Right click on "My Computer" in VISTA it's listed as "Computer"
3. Select "Properties"
4. Click on the "Hardware" (In VISTA just click device manager top left)
5. Click on "Device Manager in XP"
6. Click the + sign next to "Ports (COM & LPT)"
7. One of the listed ports should indicate which port your USB adapter is connected to (e.g. COM1, COM2, COM3, etc.)
If port is not listed between com 1 to 4 then follow guide below if ok jump down to section 8
USB to serial drivers download if needed
Because GTRom will only let you select com 1 to 4 we have to change it to one of theseCode:USB to Serial Adapter driver downloads and documentation
now right click your usb-serial com port scroll down to properties, in here click port settings then advanced button then in here you will have a button to change com port number i use vista but should be same for xp
8. Go back to your gtrom software program that you use to transfer data and make sure it is set to the correct port.
9. You should be able to transfer/download data once the correct port is selected
Ok so you've got you cables now you need GTRom click file below to flash box with.
New fix auto roll
Now onto updating your box do not switch off your Starview or your computer at any point when updaing box.
Using the Nullmodem cable, plug one end into your computer and the other end into you Starview box.
Switch both your box and computer on when into windows load up GTRom_Super of choice from files above.
Select your com port. Now these new GTRom's have bin file built in so just hit download.
As on earlyer GTRom's it will pause on 100% .
But wait untill you get download complete box pop up.
Above might take alot longer when using usb to serial lead.
Right that's it now we need to disconnect from pc and reconnect the starview to the tv
When scan complete exit back to tv then press menu then 1570 to bring up screen below
Now go down to key emu and press right to turn on
Now exit back to tv That's it
Next bit is after you have flashed with new firmware not trying to update & firmware stuck on 0%
I've had a few of these super box's hang after updating with firmware on 0% with a flicker every ten secs or so at this point its trying to update keys, if this happens just flick power off on the back then flick back on will then update keys as normalLast edited by martin-f; 17 September, 2009, 19:13.Comment
