My good friend davros uses a 500 gig MAXTOR external IDE drive on USB with great success on his SV4........

Google it -- I daren't tell you where to buy it or I'll get the ruler across my knuckles again [OUCH!] -- Trading is against Forum Rules.......

Keep it in mind though that the SV4 only writes to FAT32 and if you go greater than 32 gig you'll have to use SWISSKNIFE in XP to format it....... [I don't think SWISSKNIFE works in VISTA - but I could be wrong??]

Incidentally, the SV4 writes to .ts files .... if you want to view these on your PC you'll have to use something like TS DOCTOR to make them compatible with ZOOM PLAYER or NERO SHOWTIME etc...... If you load the K-LITE Codecs pack [google it] it loads the MEDIA PLAYER CLASSIC - which is the only prog we've found to run .ts files straight from the drive.......

As far as cost is concerned, you can pick up a cheap IDE drive and then buy an adaptor to USB for about a tenner on FleaBay..... much cheaper than one of the posh ready made kits !!

Hope this is some help with your deliberations!

I presume this is the same for the SV5 ie files written in .ts to external HDD. Can anyone recommend a programme that will convert .ts to .avi or DivX.

Further to my previous riveting post concerning SWISSKNIFE only working in XP the following Proggie will format a drive in VISTA bigger than 32 gig

          "Fat32formatter" 1.0 by TOKIWA

          Can't run it myself - don't run VISTA !!

I use a Medion 250GB external drive, bought for not a lot from a well known supermarket chain (German - I think....). Not the one beginning with L***. The other one.
