    Starview 1 ...i think

Ok so I have an old box, all it says is starview on the top left of the box, it doesn?t say 1 or 2 or anything, alot of channels have gone walkies and I don?t know what?s up, I still have a lot of channels but stuff like home and health and zee TV are missing, a buddy says flash it as the info page says 2007 or something and its not updating when it tries.

Cant any body help me determine what box I have and what flash file I need to run?

    Thanks

Hi m8, It does sound like a starview 1 to me, there is a guide somewhere on the differences, and I am buggered if I can find it. I know the starview 2 is called 'the box' then there is the box pvr, and the usb boxes.
Anyway.. do you get any pay channels? or are they free to Air chAnnels only?
If you have some pay ones, you may only need to do a re=scan.

If it's only FTA then you need to download a firmware upgrade, and the loader to load it on your box. Plus you need your leads to load it on,
I wont post the firmware link just in case it aint a SV1. but all the links are in the stickies of the starview forum.

alrite mate, i was messing around with it last night and i noticed the code has changed by itself, i put in the code and rescanned, set emu on and it worked, all the channels are back, should i do an update so i can stop using a silly code, i dont think its changed for months and months so i dunno why my box happened to lose the code, its happened to my brothers aswell, i've ordered a null modem wire so i can update firmware if needed, what do you think?

Definitely need a firmware update then. You can enter the code manually for a while, which is ok until they start changing them 3 or 4 times a day like they have done in the past. And until your null modem cable comes, study up in the Starview forum.
We all will help you as much as we can, I am not 100% up on starview 1, done a sv2 before, which sounds similar, and a 'thebox PVR' which was usb based. And it was a while ago, and I have the memory of a goldfish tank. It's a bit like riding a bike tho, it'll come back to me, altho I usually fall off in the drive before I hit the road.
Get studying mate, and downloading your bits. the firmware and the loader. All the info is out there, just needs looking for, and I am stumped at where that guide to the starview models is, I seem to think Bulldog posted it... but goldfish forgets.
        best of luck

Oh as I say, I dont know much about the SV1, or even if its the clone.. but make sure the firmware is for your box, or clone friendly, or you may brick it.. Someone who knows about the firmwares will help you.

I dunno about differences, but you could always flash with the 257 and see how you along with it, swapping firmwares later if you find out if its a clone or not. Bumped mate.

                          1. Plug starview in at the mains;
                          2. Plug in null modem cable and join up box with
PC using COM port on PC (there is only one socket for
                          this on the starview you cant go wrong);
                          3. Open up GTRom loader or whatever sofwtare you have
for loading image on the box.
                          4. Click on "BIN File" on GTRom and load the
Auto update BIN File file that you have
(which I assume you have downloaded from here).
                          5. Now click download button and you sill se the
                          file being downloaded.
                          6. Once complete a mssage will apppears saying
                          something like "download successful".
7.Ideally you should try and get a bin file channel
list for your area and load this as well it will save a lot of time.
                          8. Alterantively, plug box in and press Menu on
remote, installation, choose your cable provider,
then move don to automatic scan and press ok.
                          9. Once all channels have been found press exit back to TV screen.
                          10. Now press menu, parental control, press ok.
Now press i then 2004. Move down to Key Emu and change option
to on. Press ok , then exit back to TV Screen.
                          11. Go to scrambled channel and wait on keys updating.
                          12 That should be you.
                          13. Details how to sort favourites etc is in the
