can anyone tell me when you add a external hdd to these boces does it record like a sky+ or v+ through epg

Yes it does !

Just remember to format the HD to FAT (16 or 32) otherwise the box won't recognise it. Ideally let the box format it (Takes for ages)

Spot on! But it does take ages to let the Box do it.....

If you've access to a Computer with XP -- use that to format the drive up to a 32 gigs capacity..... Higher than that i.e. 320 or 500 -- use SWISSKNIFE [Google it - it's free] -- but only works in XP [SWISSKNIFE won't work in VISTA as far as I know -- but I could be wrong??!!]

Believe you me, this is MUCH quicker than letting the Box do it.......

Always switch the BOX OFF before you plug or unplug your HDD or you can brick it.....

hi what do you mean by bricking the hardrive as i think i might have done it oops while setting up my box and hardrive i may well have plugged and unplugged it while box was still switched on being a complete novice and going at things like a bull in a china shop, i formatted 400gig hdd using swissknife on my lappy but when i plug it into box nothing happens go to usb on menu nothing there iam hoping its something simple that i aint doing any help much apprieciated

no, not your hd but your s/v. same as taking usb stick in/out with box on...

If you bricked the box you didnt read my reply to you in your other post m8 did you.?
