    Starview 5 Help Need

I got my starveiw 5 up and running with the pre installed software and got all of the free channels ( just to check it works )

Put the usb stick in the back (power off), turned on the power and went into the USB menu which showed the program i wanted on the USB stick it asked, do you want to re-install some software( can't remember what) i said yes ( i wasn't to sure what it meant) but said yes (bad move)!!!!!!!

I should of said no and picked the firmware that should have been installed on the stick

It said loading please wait, 30min later nothing loading, i turned the unit off then back on and all i get is nothing and on the front of SV5 is 8882

Can anyone help or have i blown my box up

Unfortunately you are now the first person to put an SV5 into the 8882 state. I haven't tried it but the Max232 interface cable used on an SV4 may work as JoK has said.

However with the new chip I am not 100% sure. I presume it shares the same interface for the max232 as the SV4. They should have left the RS232 interface as said many times for just this sort of thing.

What "software" did you load by mistake? Have you tried a reflash?
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer. - Douglas Adams

I'm not sure, it asked do i want to re-install something, i said yes, showed the installing bar but never done anything, sorry i cant be more helpfull, i should of taken a bit more caution and not rushed it at my peril

I looked for the interface on SV5 inside and out for max 232 interface and can not find one, could this be a problem or can it be done throught usb port

Have a look through recent threads and you will find the instructions.

You will find the firmware in the red stickies at the top of the page

Recieved Max 232 today, bought USB to serial lead, used the program that comes with max 232 to install 1.07 to fix sv5 and get her working again, installed driver for USB To SERIAL,followed instructions that come with max 232 program!!!!!!!!!!

                      Nothing i say Nothing, Happed

Does the serial port no its there or do i have to open it, if so guys How, i thought the driver done this

I changed the b-p-s to 115200, does anything have to be changed like data bits, Parity, stopbits or flow control.

not to sure how to select the com tho because i only have usb's on the lappy

I'm Stuck, i really thought this would be the Fix so i could sit back and enjoy

would really apprciate your Help Guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think you have to change the com port properties to 1-4,com via control panel, systems, hardware, device manager ports(com & lpt) its been such a long time since i've done it, i've forgotten most of it(senile dementia)

                          Hello everyone
I've been trying to use the Gtrom loader to get sv5 working after 8882 error, with no joy.

The program never starts the download, i spoke to the shop it was bought from they said firmware i was trying to load was corrupt?

can anyone shed some light on this situation, or is that the shop saying "sort it out yourself " where not interested.

If the box has been Bricked can it be unbricked with the Gtrom program

Sorry for posting this a second time, i should have kept it with the thread i originally posted.

I would appreciate anyones help and views please

What you want to be loading this f/w onto it>> Digital Kaos - Downloads - TheboxSuperUSB2_v2.03.20090923.BIN

Now you have a USB to serial adapter, these can be very hard to set up and get driver for, I would suggest you try and get hold of an old laptop/desktop with a dedicated I/O 9pin serial port on it.

You could also change your com port settings for your USB adapter in device manager, look in ports, port setting, advanced then change com port number to 1 or 2,3 then 4, you will also need to change it to the same in the loader.

And also have you got a NULL modem cable??

                            JoK
                            Thanks Jok
I'm going to use someone's desktop with serial ports and set everthing up as your've explained, i called the shop again, they said put sv5 firmware into loader and all should work, but it didn't, so another computer might be the answer

                            Thanks again m8

Will that f/w be different from the sv5 f/w i've already downloaded 2.03?
