I believe its the firmware that has the secret code on it, so you do need the firm ware

I tryied the secret code without no firmware install, and it Didn't work!

rsmootee is right. if you have access to the secret menu then you already have some form of firmware loaded on your starview, just scan for channels in your service provider area and that should be you
