cant put codes onto box

ive just got this old box.fta channels are fine but when i try to put the codes in then press ok the box switches off.
i think its a starview 1 but not sure.i tried loading the latest firmware for the sv1 but no joy.
the system info is api ver:4.00e-e boot ver 7 7 june 2007
could it be a newer box? and why cant i manually put in the codes?

no point in doing above, your software is out of date, use software from december 09, still working.

put firmware for dec 08 on.it says its loaded but still no joy

got it working.
after i put the firmware on for about the fourth time i went into the nagravision.there was no change so i moved the provider on one place.all f`s so i thought why not try the codes in here.when i put one row of numbers in and saved then a service provider came up.not my provider but at least it was something so i moved back to my own service provider and the numbers had all changed.i just went back to a the tv channels and there we go it started to update.
