SV 5 Help.

hello guys, I'm new to this, please help, I just got my SV 5 today and set it all up, chose English, then chose installation and then chose automatic and then NTL.

All channels I had from Virgin came up including ones I had not subscribed to which had a $ sign on the bottom.

I can only view the ones without the sign.

I also can not access the secret menu using the 1570 on the menu. nothing happens.

Do I have to install something in the box or download something onto it using the usb? as I can see everything seems to be doing this, but is this necessary before anything else or should it have worked already without anything download or files being put into the box?

Please write it out simple for me. THANKS.

OK guys, I managed to get it working now,

The one thing though which I have come across is that I get so many of certain channels, ok I get bbc 1 for like Wales Scotland etc, which I guess are different,

But I also get like 3 ITV which are the same, and that's not the only repeated one.

Do I just Have to delete them or something?

you can delete them if you want,but they are only regional variations, ie, nw, midlands, london etc for local news.

Hi mate i think you have to download the software and update your box otherwise it doesn't worth the money, any freeview will give you BBC 1,2,,3.... ITV1,2....

yeah I do get the Pay channels too. as well as the normal ones, which I get alot of repeated. Like the guy above said its a lot of regional ones but also some which isnt andis just repeated.

i will have to take about 1 hour of my time having to delete ones i dont want ie duplicated ones and rename and move etc.

its a small price 2 pay having to delete channels and use a hour of your time!!!!

Basically I have a friend who wants S/V 5. Although he does not actually have Virgin at his house. However the previous tenants had so the connection is there.

To test it out he needs a right cable wire conected to the wall that connects into the S/V 5 box.

But we havent done that yet. I was just wondering if someone can confirm it for me if it will work. as I heard that even though he has not got virgin and only the conection, signals are still being sent down the line so he should be able to pick up the channels????????

the cable will still be live m8 unless vm have disconnected it in the green box on the street, the only way to be sure is to try it with a box, another way is to plug the cable direct into a telly and put it on auto tune some tellys will pick fta stations up

Why dont you take your box round for testing puposes before he shells out some ??'s

I have taken it round to his but he cut the end of the wire , you know the one thats screws into the back of the S/V 5 box.

so it didnt work properly, he needs to buy some proper cable wires so we can test it out.

I was just wondering though if anyone would have the answer. and sounds as if it could work if it has not been disconected from the green box in the street.

Well best thing is to buy the wires then and me take my box round to see if it works.

If there is some wire left to plug into the box near the Tv then all you need is to connect a screw fit f connector to the end of the wire.
Example below
2 Screw FIT F Connectors - ?1.49 : MyCableBox
Then you need the adaptor
Example below
2 X F- COAX Adapters [2x F-adptr] - ?1.50 : MyCableBox

just put a normal tv arial connector on end of cable then plug into tv.you should get a couple of channels if still got a live feed...

done the firmware on the starview 5 and scanned channels i only get the fta and others have $ sign on what do i need to do

Press menu then 1570
press ok on default menu
turn keycode on.
Exit out to a sly channel
let it update.
All systems go
