max 232 problems

hi i have bought some sv5 boxes for xmas gifts and when trying to load the software it only went to 8% and then froze and now i have the 8882 message, i have read all the messages on the forum and ordered a max 232 lead but even though i have changed the port to com 1 or whatever i cant get the software to load.

any ideas? also what am i doing wrong when i am putting the software on as i never had a problem with sv4.

The Max232 will not work with an SV5, they work on its predecessor the SV4. Best bet is to see if your supplier will replace them for you.

I have got one or two SV5s with the 8882 problem working by trying a reflash over twenty times in one case. But that was pure luck and in no way guaranteed to recover from a bad flash with these later models. Bad manufacturing choice taking away the RS232 port to save a few quid.

If you used a cheap unformatted, (usually these are the ones that come with the box), pen drive this could have caused the bad flash.

i have contacted the supplier but he said there is nothing he can do, what do you recommend for loading the firmware for the other 4 boxes cos im scared of ruining the others, when you say a unformatted pen drive what does that mean im not very up to date on this. also can you tell me how to reflash this one with the 8882 message cos i will try anything at the minute, do i only need the one file v.1.07 bin or is there a logo file as well like the sV4.

v1.07 is not the file you need for the SV5

not checking the correct firmware to use first ,problems will happen as each starview model has its own firmware and is not swappable.

sorry to say, wrong software will cause this issue, should be a loader out soon, so all will be ok, just a waiting game, just hope it comes in time for you.

When I'm downloading this firmware I don't get anything. It keeps on opening up VLC player with nothing else! Any ideas?

Its worked for me. Try again. don't forget to save the file to your pc and not open it

Managed to download it now but it is still coming up with the VLC logo and says the saved file is a VLC media file (.bin). Is this Ok? don't want risk bricking the box by putting it on if it's not!

Your computer settings are associating all bin files as VLC. This is due to your file association settings which you can change.
It should not matter as long as it still is a bin file.
