If you go in the downloads sextion there is a tutorial by desertdog that explains all.
I'm hijacking the thread with my query as their are way too many starview 5 threads.
I’ve just received my second Starview 5. The first had the dreaded 8882 error when I tried to put the firmware on.
When I formatted the USB stick before, it had two partitions C & D (this was on a windows XP machine) I’ve seen no mention of this in the tut that Desertdog so kindly put up. I’m an apple mac user and usually I can format disks in disk utility to FAT32 and all is fine but for some reason it wouldn’t accept it in the Starview box, hence me using my friends machine to format the stick. So, should the usb stick have 2 partitions on it when it is done? It didn’t on my MacBook but did with a windows XP machine using the standard formatting software.
The USB stick is 2GB I think. And it’s a good sandisk one.
Thanks for any help. -

Im not sure what you mean m8 the starview wont partition it and if you formated it on a pc i would suggest no partion as this may cause you problems i use a 2 gig sick and a 30 gig hd WITHOUT any partitions and no problems at all.
Hope this helps if not ask again m8If i have helped you please dont post Thanks just use the Thanks buttonComment

Hi DD, thanks for the response.
I know it was strange. I didn't ask to partition the USB stick but it did. As i said in my earlier post, i usually format SD cards to FAT32 on my macbook with no problem at all but the Starview 5 wont recognise the stick once plugged in.
I've just come back with a new USB stick. i'll try it now but i don't wanna brick my second Starview 5. Was thinking of getting a Dreambox 500c. They are much more technical to set up but if things do go wrong you can reset the box unlike this one which is rubbish really.
Great tutorial by the way.Comment

These boxes are a piece of p*** to set up m8 providing you follow the tut most problems seem to arise by inserting the USB stick drive etc with the box on if you do that You WILL brick it so dont m8.How big is the stick and make sure its fat32 formatted by a windows pc.
If you need further help just post here m8 if i can help i will okIf i have helped you please dont post Thanks just use the Thanks buttonComment

I followed your tut to the letter last time mate and the box froze on update of the firmware. Even though it said not to turn it off i had to (after 45 minutes) and then had the dreaded 8882.
I don't doubt they are easy to set up and i know the vast majority of people have done it no problem at all but my thing is if they do go wrong there is no way to sort them out and in this day and age that is crap.
Gonna try it now anyway. Fingers crossed.Comment

This is strange.
Ok make sure your stick is clear of any other stuff although i have used one with a few films on and all was ok.
Switch the box OFF copy the file to the stick from the pc.Some Pcs require the stick to be stopped before removal from the Pc if this is not done the file can get corrupted.
Now with the sv5 off completely by the switch ok insert the usb stick and switch the box on.Last edited by DESSERTDOG; 19 December, 2009, 18:58.If i have helped you please dont post Thanks just use the Thanks buttonComment

The box is setup now.
I tried the formatting again as before and still the same problems so formatted the USB stick in the box and then copied the file over onto the stick. And loaded it that way.
Lets hope i get some decent use out of it now.
Thanks for all the helpComment
