Box II USB 8882 can't get GTROM & MAX232 to work

I have a Starview 5 The Box II USB just displaying 8882 after trying to update firmware via USB and it freezing half way
    I bought a MAX232 thing off ebay
I made a cable from the MAX232 to the 4 pins inside the box, left to right from the front of the box
    1 VCC
    2 TX
    3 RX
    4 GND
I have a null modem serial cable
I am using a PC with a serial port on XP
I set the COM port in device manager to COM1 baud 115200
    I have GTROM_TheBoxSuperUSB and
    TheboxSuperUSB2_v2.03.20090923 firmware
when I press download and turn the box on, nothing happens
the box just goes to 8882

any ideas what is going wrong?

      wrong thread?

      hi

was that reply meant for me as it is not relevent to my problem.

I tried to program the box using usb and it froze half way (as I stated in my post) and now just displays 8882.

I discovered I should be able to recover it using a max232 adapter and connecting to the socket inside the unit.

I have all the necessary bits but when I press download on the gtrom loader and turn the box on, nothing happens.

The max232 will not work on the SV5, try your supplier to see if they will replace it.

The loader GTROM-V25 loader is for use with an SV4 and a max232.
