    starview craashes

    ive had my starview for 3yrs now and its been good to me....until now.
    i switch on my starview now and it freezes straight away then switches itself off after about 10 seconds then switches itself on then does the same again.it keeps doin it until i plug it out the wall. when it freezes the sound carries on til the box resets itself.do i need i new one if so wot one? thanks

    try switchin off at the back and back on
    make sure all leads are in ..esp scart leads.....if u can get to the menu do a factory reset
    m8 i wouldnt buy a new one cos virgin are bringin out a new encription,,,nag 3...there s loads of threads on ere about it ..it s gonna make ur and all our boxes useless

      tried all your suggestions and its still the same. oh well i got 3yrs out of it.
      looked up nagra 3.didnt realise that these boxes will b no more. hope this nagra 3 gets cracked eventualy. thanks again.

          just a thought have you tried a factory reset and reflash firmware first,as long as you are not in a nagra 3 area might work.might also be a problem with internal caps that are doming or leaking.

            hi,,

            check the caps as said,, look for leaking,, bulging,, fishy smell !

            make sure the box is well vented/ give it a blow out

            failing that a lump hammer....

                i no nagra3 is not in my area coz i av 1 down stairs which works fine. sorry 2 sound dumb but wot r internal caps that are doming or leaking? where do i look?

                  also i noticed 2day wen the broadband wire is unplugged and i switch my box on im able 2 switch channels....... obv wiv the screen sayin no signal.....but as soon as i put the wire in it crashes. gona try the reflash firmware 2moz.hope it works

                    internal caps are under the cover soldered onto the boards,unplug remove top and look carefully at flat tops of caps faulty they rise out of shape,or leak around base

                      iv ad a look at these internal caps.sum r upright and sum r lyin down as if ther aslp . theres no leakage. oh and iv just found out my box is a clone.

                            I have a Starview 2 "the box" Mate ( amongst others ) , and went through all the crap you've had with it , picture "green out" , switching off / on whenever it felt like .
                            Freezing , then switching off/on , if you tried to change channels .
                            After much discussion on DK , decided it was the power supply board faulty , i replaced it with one from a scrap starview 1 , i bought off fleabay ( 10 min job ) , that was 12 mths ago and it's been faultless since.
                            I bought another spare from a fleabay trader for ?8 , they're still available if you look regularly.

                              capassitor is 54p from maplins make sure it is the 1000uf 16v one, should work a treat after until nagra 3 kills it.
