Starview 5, The Box USB - HELP!!

Happy New Year all.
Please could anyone help?! I'm struggling big time with my starview 5. I've been reading the threads, but they don't make sense to me - v green with these things.

I get the free channels ok, but the others seem to be blocked with a $ sign against it. I didn't get any soft ware with the box, are you supposed to?? Are you supposed to get a memory stick with it also? I keep reading about this firmware.. Do I have to download this so that I can view all the channels? Any help much appreciated.

the boxes are only sold as fta,box will need to be updated by a usb flash drive with firmware on it,DO NOT PLUG IN/REMOVE USB WHILE BOX IS POWERED ON OR YOU WILL BRICK IT.
