larryoke is correct m8. TheboxSuperUSB_V1.07.BIN". is the one you should apply. my mistake..Just a quick question with regards to the firmware upload. On the links you stated in your original post. One of the BIN files was "TheboxSuperUSB2_v2.03.20090923.BIN" Also in the 8882 Zip file there are BIN files the latest being "TheboxSuperUSB_V1.07.BIN". I'm assuming the latest firmware is "TheboxSuperUSB2_v2.03.20090923.BIN" so I should apply that instead of "TheboxSuperUSB_V1.07.BIN".
Is that correct?
Sorry for the stupid question, just want to make sure I get this right!
Thanks again,

Hi Guys,
Thannks for the clarification, as I only Have "The Box Super USB" I'll try the v1.12 f/w again. Still waiting for my cable to be delivered though!
Again thanks for your help guys, once I've managed to get my box sorted I'll do a step by step guide with pictures to help anyone else with the problem.
Once again much appreciated!!

Personally I would use V1.07, in some cases v1.12 has been known to brick sv4 genuine & clones, I'm sure there's a thread about it somewhere.Hi Guys,

important to all starview 4 owners uk
Taken from another well known forum posted sometime ago but I think still relevant. Thanks to Martin.
"this is from a very good source thanks to him replying to me and the warning
the v1.10 and the later Beta are clone killers. The more worrying part is they are also killing early genuine models"
1.10 and the Beta are of no value in the UK as they have a bug with advanced recording via the EPG, always use 1.07 in the UK
Ireland needs to use the latest Beta because of Nagra 2 and 1.10 had a few bugs on Nagra 2. I see a steady stream of clones been killed.
you have been warned
i dont know if i have just been lucky as i have used the v1.10 for months and the new beta for a couple of weeks i have gone back to the 1.07Comment

Hi Larry
Thanks for the post I'll stick to v1.07. My Cable has just arrived it's all hooked up and using the GTROM software I have followed the instructions to the letter, double checking everything. Once I have set the COM port (COM3, 115200 baud rate) Selected Application ONLY, Selected v1.07 of the F/W. Clicked Download and then powered on my Box Super USB, I get the box display showing 8888 then changes to 8882. The GTRom software does not progress to show a downloading screen, it just remains on its original screen.
I have followed the instruction ensuring no mistakes are made. I have checked my COM port is actually COM 3 and set to baud rate 115200. I have checked my cable to the JTAG connector is correct as marked and the correct side of the cable is connected to GND on the starview box.
However no progress. Any thoughts?
Thanks,

Is this the cable you received starview usb/Pansat 8882 fix max232,? take a look on tailor made circuits. Did it come with the software on a disc? PS although I don't mind you PM me it's much better to post on the open forum that way you will get imput from more people (better educated than me) and it may help others with the same problemThanks for the post I'll stick to v1.07. Hi Guys,
I have attached a pic of the cable that I have.
Thanks,

RS232 Connector
Yes I got a CD with the relevant software (GTROM), guides, F/W. I've tried both the F/W and software from the CD and also the ones Maca provided in his original post. Neither work I have exactly the problem with both.
Once I click on download, I don't see the downloading screen as shown in the guides, simply nothing happens.Comment

Update
Hi Guys,
Just to give you an update, I was going through some of the forums and someone had suggested to try connecting the box to a maching that already had a 9-pin COM port (instead of using a USB to Serial Cable), as I have one of those I gave it a try.
Exactly the same results. I am starting to suspect two possibilities:
1) The RS232 Converter is the problem
2) My box is completely sc*ewed
If anyone has any further advice, or would be willing to let me borrow their RS232 Converter (I'll happily pay postage etc) that would be great!
Thanks,

i got the same problem as well i have a male and female cable with a converter would this be the problem? i have the right circuit defo as checked the verification pictures i have the usb to rs232 adaptor and its on com 1 @ 115200
cant see whats wrong apart from the cable? i dont have a rs232 port as i got a core i7 so too new but would it vbe worth trying it on a older pc to see if it needs the direct connection?
thanks in advanceComment

Hi Jok
I have a null modem cable.
The picture I attached is Serial 9-Pin Male adapter to 4-Pin TTL (for the JTAG connection inside "The Box Super USB"). The Female Null modem cable connects to that adapter, which then would go into either a serial to USB adapter or an older PC with a Male COM port.
I have tried both methods, connecting via a USB to serial connector and also to an older PC with 9-PIN Male connector.
However once I click on download and switch on my Box Super USB the download screen does not appear.
REMEMBER: The Box Super USB does NOT have a null modem connection at the back hence an RS232 to TTL cable has to be used.
Thanks,

Hi Jok
I'm pretty sure it's a null modem cable, it is the one that arrived with my Eurovox 5100 PVR which I have used to upgrade the firmware on my Eurovox so I know the cable works.
Just for clarity, these are the steps I have followed:
- I have connected the JTAG Connector (The black connector has a blue side painted on with nail varnish) when faceing the box from the front I have ensured I have connected the black connector making sure the blue side of it is on the right hand side. NOTE The starvie box is OFF at this stage.
- I have then connected one end of the Null Modem Cable (9-PIN Female to Female) to the COM port on the converter.
- I have then connected the other end of the Null Modem cable to my USB to serial converter
- I have then checked on my computer verifying (using Computer Management) the COM Port allocated to the USB to Serial Converter which is allocated COM3 by the PC.
- I have then increased the baud rate to 115200 for COM3
- I have then launched the GTROM Software. Selected the COM port and set it to COM3
- I have then selected "Application Only"
- I have then browsed for the Firmware version which is "TheBoxSuperv1.07.bin"
- I have the clicked on the download button
- Lastly I have then powered on the Box, when starting up the box displays 8888, after a couple of seconds it then displays 8882 and just stays on that number.
I have also eliminated the USB to serial adapter from the equation by using a desktop PC that already has a built in COM Port (which was COM1 on the desktop, so I didn't have to use the USB to Serial adapter), I also increased the baud rate to 115200 as recommended going through the same steps above but instead selecting COM1 on the GTROM software. Again exactly the same results.
Any thoughts?
