Updating Starview 5 Step by Step

Assuming you have the Firmware on a USB memory stick.

Step 1) Plug in the starview 5 and attach the cable feed to the cable input on the back of the box.

Step 2) Insert the usb pen drive into the usb slot at the back of the box and then flick on the power switch also at the rear of the box, and power the box on with the remote.

Step 3) press menu on the remote and scroll down to the usb option and hit ok, here you will see the file on the pen drive. Highlight (TheboxSuperUSB2_v2.03.20090923.BIN) file and press ok. Wait for your Starview 5 to re-boot In some cases it will re-boot twice do not interrupt this process (aprox 45 seconds )

Step4) Once the firmware file have loaded onto the box go into menu and key in 1570 with the remote, You won?t see these on the screen, This will bring you to the secret menu. Highlight keycode and change it to ON then exit.

STEP5) Now you?re all set to scan, go back into menu and highlight installation and choose automatic scan hit ok and choose the provider for the area you are in (i.e NTL TW EX C&W and so on) Select the correct one and hit ok. The box should now pick up the desired channels. Go to sky sports 1 (511 Virgin) wait about 15 seconds until the data is updated. Now your done all channels will be available. There is a security message on channel 510 this is normal you can delete the channel if you wish using your user guide. Should it not pick anything up try the scan on a different provider. Set the correct time date etc for program guide.

Is the software required for flashing dependant on the region you are in? For example, I'm in the Midlands.

Also, i have an arnet a700c box, started losing channels a while ago, tried to restore them but everything went wrong, now I'm wondering whether I should spend my time trying to correct this box, or invest in the starview 5 and flash that instead, any ideas?

No Probs, dont forget if you are changing to 3.7 and losing channels you still have to re-install the firmware.
                A factory reset wont work.

Hi, Thanks for posting this walk through! I have an issue with a Starview 5 Th Box USB 2, this will actually be my 3rd starview 5 box to unlock the channels on. The first two where a breeze but the 3rd one is doing my head in. I have followed your instructions to the "T" but I've had no joy. I live in Belfast N.Ireland and I'm wondering what the problem could be. Has VM made it impossible for new starview 5 boxes to get a channel list on? as I can't even get FTA channels. I have two Starview 5 boxes at the min one's for a friend. The 1st has been unlocked with S/W version 2.03 mentioned in the walk through & it's working fairly well but I've noticed there's been a few channels that's become untenable such as, sky premiere. But the 2nd boxes is the one that's hard work I've tried following the Instructions in the walk through a few times with the same S/W v2.03 that I used to unlock the other SV 5 Box after doing factory resets but I've had no luck! I think I might have been sold a dogey SV 5 Box. Any ideas or solutions would be great-fully appreciated. Thanks Philmcc.
