    Non Lan Starview Combos

Ok looking on Ebay I came accross this RJ45 LAN to Serial cable for Cisco Catalyst switch 3000 on eBay (end time 04-Feb-10 12:34:11 GMT)

Would that work on a non lan combo and if not why not everyone is waiting for these "dongles" that are supposed to be coming surely they are just a serial to lan converter or am I way out on this one

If they are going a certain route which I am sure they are, then the dongle is required,it is not just about connecting, its about them getting their dues given it will be on a pay basis, (I wouldn't recommend going that route).

A dongle is not just a connection it is a software distribution key to limit access to authorised users only. The converter you linked to could be used for ethernet connection purposes but will not give you what you are looking for unfortunately.

My answer is of course hypothetical as these boxes are not released as of yet. There are other manufacturers going a more open sourced route allowing the buyer to choose where they want to go.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer. - Douglas Adams

Just looking for options as it looks like these dongles are never going to arrive, ethernet to lan is another possibility purely for the sat side of course it would be suicide to go the other route
