    Starview 4 (clone) 8882 Max232

Hi i have established i have a clone starview 4 usb box (silverheatsink inside box)

Would like to ask anybody who knows anything about the Max232 interface.... i currently have the 8882/8888 error cycle .....

I have Max232 interface which was purchased off Ebay this is the one ive got - MAX232 EQ MAX233 232 CABLE MODEM UPGRADE ADAPTER on eBay (end time 25-Feb-10 00:16:32 GMT)

I have opened the box up and removed the white piece of plastic covering the 4 prongs http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/7964/04copyb.jpg (the plastic cover in this image). Have managed to connect the max232 interface to these prongs using the cable supplied with the max interface and the LED light on the interface lights up so im assuming this is correct (it is a clone box as the cable supplied didnt fit onto the board) at first but have managed to clip onto the prongs to get the LED to light to light up im assuming this is the correct way to do it.

on the Max232 the connection to plug into the device is a female 9 pin connection i dont really know how to get the flash to load onto the box -was wondering if a male to female null modem is what i need? in order to flash the box to get rid of the error or do i need a different cable i have GTROM_V25 dont know if this is the correct version to load a flash onto the box?

I already have a USB to serial convertor but was thinking of getting a male to female null modem cable but not sure if this is the piece of kit i would need?

also would i just flash version 1.07 firmware? and a logo onto the box? the error was caused by loading firmware v.1.12 through the usb and it would not let me reflash back to firmware 1.07

any help would be appreciated thanks

The max232 you have bought states that it has a female db9 to fit into a serial port so I am guessing here that you will not need a NULL lead for this, just a serial db9 male to female for an extension. (The max 232 I have has a male db9 and needs to be used in conjunction with a NULL cable)

The USB to serial convertors can be a pain, I would suggest an earlier PC/lappy with the 9 pin I/O port.

Yes GTROM v_25 will be fine to use but you will need to put v1.07 f/w back on as the latter f/w is what has killed it.

Thanks very much joK for your reply i'll try out a serial 9 pin male to female was not sure if i was going in the right direction trying to get rid of the error but your post has cleared a few things up i'll give it a try cheers.
