have virgin bricked my starveiw 4?

hi, i live in the b'ham area and my box went off monday night, nag3 was my original thought but i did a rescan tuesday daytime, this fixed the problem "wahoo!" BUT i was getting "This box is a invalid box!" message, then about an hour later the box froze up(channel still showing but epg ect locked out even from the box its self) so i killed the power switch and BAM!! i got me a dead box, still power going to it but no display on box or screen, so i did a little search and found it's a clone killing firmware update but

    1. i did not update any firmware since i got the box in july when i put the latest one at the time on from this site

    and

    2
.I got the box from cableandsat dot com, trusted box sellers i'm told
    is this true?

anyway i also read something about a failed boot loader,
could virgin have caused this with there update/key change or just a bad coincidence?

your thoughts would be much appreciated
