why dont people that NEED their boxes working try writing new firmware instead of just constantly asking for it.

Maybe because of two reasons. Firstly, they have paid for something and expect it to work. Secondly, the Starview software is closed source.

I'm a bit puzzled about the talk of the server going down all the time.

I've had mine a while now and though admittedly I don't watch a massive amount of telly I've had the server go once on me, for a couple of hours. It really doesn't seem that bad.

I previously had a SV4 and I know how useless the software was, and there are many problems with the SV6 software (the PVR function and the streaming from your pc doesn't work). I bought the SV6 out of desperation because there are only two choices for cable now and it was by far the cheapest. I've slagged starview off on this forum on plenty of occasions, often in the face of bullying by the starview mafia who seem to have evaporated over the last few months (if indeed they weren't all the same individual with a few aliases).

However, credit where it's due: in my experience the server is pretty good, and the box has been value for money. I wonder if a lot of people who go on forums to give their advice about the reliablity of the server have even been in the same room as a SV6. I certainly don't think a lot of them are even in the same country where these boxes operate.

Not aiming this at anyone in particular, but if you're going to give advice it should based on experience rather than internet rumour.

Right, I'm off to watch the uninterrupted cricket, courtesy of Mr Murdoch.

                Well Said

Well Said, I have noticed a lot of posts that contradict my own experience

                  starview hd lan

I have the starview hd lan and would like to know when the server will be putting the sky hd channels back on or are they not bothered because of the sales of the starview 6. would be nice if they would put them back on as i am thinking of selling my box and going to the arnet hd box.

That wont achieve anything as CS is only a workaround?

I know that but what I'm saying is if the sv cs server is down then they can hack the firmare then set it up for your own cs server instead of just waiting on the sv server getting fixed

In that case get a Dreambox and do a lot of reading, why rely on a SV STB and wasting time and effort on looking at it's firmware?

                                I have a dreambox c+s .
Thats exactly what I'm saying too, why rely on SV server in first place and that if they are so woorried about not being able to use something they have paid dollar for and want it to work then instead of sitting on their but waiting on it coming back on whilst asking stupid questions on here asking when its going to be back on, they should try and hack the firmware allowing everyone to use their own server.
The reason they have bought these boxes in the first place is tat they dont want to do anything to get free TV , they just want 100% plug and play along with expecting people on forums to sort their problems out straight away.

Plus it wouldn't be wasting time messing with the firmware , especially if you crack it, its all experience and education.
