hi all.. can i buy a usb stick say 8 gb to upload firmware and to record tv on it via the starview 4 box .then play back or does it have to be external hard drive
thanks
Can be either. An 8GB stick will give you approximately 3 to 3 and a half hours space for recordings. The SV4 uses a variable bit rate for its video recordings and as such the file size varies depending on the content being recorded. i.e., sports, docs or films. Not all recordings of the same duration will create the same size files.

yea you can use a usb stick but do both .. but if your gonna be recording on it then i would suggest that you use a usb HDD as it uses a lot of space to record (think its something like 20-25 min per gig)
Cheers just dont go for a cheap version as it will cause you some recording lags. I use a 250GB WD external passport HDD:
Just at bit dearer at around ?55 to ?60 dependent on where you get it. But works great and looks great alongside the SV4. Plus as you can see plenty of capacity.

i was thinking about getting a WD 500GB Drive about ?60 but i have heard they are only compatible with drives up to 300gb i have a external 320 MAXTOR usb2 connected to my pc would that be ok and i could use the 500gb on my pc instead of the 320 any ideas satsmo thanks in advance
Recommendation is based upon tests carried out. This is due to the power load from the USB. 320GB should work at a push and use the 500GB for your PC as said.

Thanks satsmo i forgot to mention that the 320gig has a external power suply and the new 500 will also have a power suply would that be better for the sv4
Yes an external power supply will be better. You could try the 500 if you want but I have heard that there are problems with that size of HDD, when used on the SV4.
