Starview 6 Lan Cable Help

I will try to explain best i can.
I have my modem connected to my wireless router which has 5 ethernet ports on the back.
will any of the other 4 free ports work with connecting to my SV 6?
the reasn i ask is i have tried moving the cable that is in now to 1 of the other free ethernet ports but then my laptop then doesn't connect to the wirelees router so i dont know if i can use the other free ports,
i Have the software file, do i have to format my usb stick to fat 32 first before connecting it to the SV 6

any/all the ports will work with any other equipment but when you connect something else you have to power down and then power back up the modem and the router, also if you have security settings you will have to set up access.
