i dont seam to be able to be able to load the CARLING-1.03.ups file on my box is this due to it not being a BIN FILE ?

Is USB-stick formatted to FAT 32, if not format it. You can do
this on your PC or on STVU 7.
Then copy Carling 1.03 firmware to your USB-stick. Now insert
USB-stick in STVU 7, always power-off box when inserting or
removing USB-stick.
Menu--Utility--USB, select Carling 1.03 firmware, then select
S/W & all data update
