    What box do i have??

I have a box that i thought was a Starview 4 but now i'm not sure.

It says it is 'the box pvr' but it doesnt have usb on the back to plug in a memory stick and says software can only be upgraded via a 232 serial cable. It does have usb on the rear but its the end that you would normally find on the rear of a printer or external hard drive.

I am trying to update the software due to the recent problems but i am a little lost at the minute and all help would be appreciated.

    Thanks guys

You have exactly as you have described, "The Box PVR". Its an older duel tuner model and no fix as of yet.

Firmware can be upgraded via USB but only after you have installed a HDD. But as said no fix as of yet. The firmware was buggy enough either way. This box has also been discontinued.

      That your box fella?

If so the firmware's not out yet.

      It's called Starview TheBox PVR.

If the firmware doesnt have that written do not use it, it will brick (break) your box.

      Be patient!

Thats my fella alright! I'll just sit tight and be patient.

I bought this a few months ago from a mate and got it quite cheap, i am looking to upgrade to a more reliable box that has a decent epg and record mode on. Any suggestions as you guys seem to know these things inside out.

You wont get a cheaper dual tuner. But for a single tuner PVR, try the Eurovox EX5000 or the Starview 4.
