NEED IDIOTS GUIDE TO SOFTWARE UPDATING

Hello from a newbie. Yes, as lots of others, I too need some assistance pls.

Lost channels on Starview 3 (super) like everyone else. Just downloaded new software 8.02_e on my laptop which is a Zip file. Could someone point out what I need to do from here. I will be using the RS232 to transfer the file to the box..have no idea how to do this. Would be great if someone can point me in the right direction....also... I don't need the patch file do I ?

Also, tried to connect box to pc with RS232 cable to endeavour to "send" the downloaded file to the box. My pc will not recognise the hardware. Yes.. I know ! I am a complete IDIOT!

well first you need a null modem cable (try maplins for one) then look too see if you have a serial port on back of pc

download file for your box unrar it (you need winrar for this OpenDNS .com) connect your box with the null modem cacle to pc and leave box in standbye mode. double click on unrared file and then click on download. wait till download has finished and bobs your uncle.

I managed to get instructions/ tutorials from 4shared.com - free file sharing and storage . Useful guides for my other idiot brethren out there ! He he he!

Software worked by the way. Humble thanks to the provider. For those with same problem, I had to get machine to factory settings first and then re-install... . Also used the RS232 cable provided by starview supplier and hooked up to the PC. Could not hook to laptop because of a different connection.

WARNING RE "intervalhehehe" virus

Downloaders please be warned that I have managed to get infected with the above virus. Initially, this virus comes up as a pop up with the message "intervalhehehe". In addition, Explorer shows what appears to be a Microsoft page telling you that you have been infected with this virus and to pau US$40 for its removal. This links to another website ,thus someone wants to meke a bundle of cash first by infecting our puters and then selling us a program for its removal. I could not get any other web pages except in chinese. Research suggested that it was a chinese virus and the common factor was that downloaders of Winrar were all infected and hence a winrar free download site was sending the virus.

The afterdawn website has useful advice and suggest various anti-malware. I have downloaded Malwarebytes via my laptop but the scan has frozen ! Pulling my hair out and hopw that no one has picked up this virus.

Would appreciate assistance from those who have been able to remove it.

@Rajaosman try running malwarebytes in safemode. Boot PC and press f8 before the splashscreen you get a list of options safemode is one of them.

Firstly could you Remove all your links if they have a viruz in one..

You reali need to find out what viruz it is so i suggest you google the factors of the viruz.. you will find someone els has posted a help forum on it and just hope someone has posted how to delete it.

hi i had this f****** too. i had to strart my lappy up in safe mode ....instructions 2 post s above had to do a power drain b4 hand tho by takin battery out and pressin power button an d replacin battery.theni pressed power button while repeatinly pressin f8 then i press ed start button on lappy and typed in to search engine just below all programmes c:\windows:\drivers:\etc and when i was doin this i noticed the title intereval hehehe come up on the list ...with the icon of a pile of books next to it...so i left clicked it and deleted it .then i went to control panel deleted winrar....then i went bac to start search and put in winrar and deleted all win rar winace files then i went to recycle bin and emptied it ..then i ran windows defender which found and deleted any other traces of the virus....up to now ..no probs.........etc except i ve tried doin a systems restore several times and it wont do .its says failed due to a unverifed error .wonder if any one knew why i cant do a system restore on lappy. i also have norton 360 on my lappy and its been useless!!!!
