    starview expiry date

Is the expiry date locked to the boxs mac address (chip code), if this is so if you could change the mac address to fool the server it was a different box (new box) then would the expiry date change as it would think it had just been connected for the first time.

no, these were sold as boxes with 12 month cs, everybody new this from launch date last year, but still cheap for 12 months viewing.

Yes i no it has a 12 month life span but i thought it only knows the box by its mac code as every box has a different mac code so can you not fool it to think it is a new box if you changed the mac address code.

The MAC Addresses will be registered on the server, so changing the address will just result in you having an invalid address that isn't registered.

It will also be hard coded to the box as well, so no way of changing that.

can you not just change the chip with a new one so it thinks it is a new box?

Probably, but how would you get the server to allow access to a MAC that they have no record of?

Legalities in relation to selling firmware that circumvents a providers encryption methods.

Hence the reason for the timeline, (including generating a cash flow to maintain their servers), and selling a new box, as you would be the one to flash the FTA only box you buy from the distributor.

I should imagine it is from the date of connection
1 year for the price you paid sounds a bargain compared to
                          what v***** are charging!
then a new box.And then same again for another year

I will hold you to that.

Cut off dates are dependent on a business model and not entirely based upon good customer service or provider circumvention. As the saying goes, " you get nothing for nothing".

Aftersale service is however a plus when buying any product.
