Komplete Newb - Have Starview box, now what...

Hi All, A friend dropped off a freeview box over Christmas, was going to hook it up and see what it can do.

Details.
The box I have is a "TheBox PVR Dual Record PVR" from system info. E-Ver 4.506, 15 Oct 2007. I am located in Ireland, midlands region. Currently have Sky.

Its my first time looking into this, want to see if its worth moving off sky "257 channels and nothing on" for ?72/month.

I had a bit of a read through some topics here, my question is will this box still work, seems to be moves to block channels, etc. What do I need to do to get it to work, Im guessing I will need to update software / firmware on the box etc. Will it work off the sky dish I currently have or do I need a generic dih from LIDL etc.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated. Ta

I believe its a doorstop mate, sky dish no good, its a cable tuner. Have you gone to nag 3 yet?

Hi, figured the sky dish would not be a runner, the only TV I have ever had out here in the Bog was Sky, or Chorus delivered via satellite dish (guess this means no cable). If I picked up a receiver dish in LIDL and ran the feed into the box would it get a signal, i remeber setting one up for an in law a few years back, manual gave directions to satellite such as astra and picked up channels.

If it ain't gonna work I don't want to waste time on it but I am a bit techie and dont mind a bit of a project so long as its going to get me somewhere.

If you hooked a box up to a dish then it was a sat box. What you have is a cable box with a cable tuner, so NO dish would work with it
