Help please on starview 7 box

hi all i have now been looking for a bit about purchasing a starview 7 box but i have read forums about these boxes going off after 12mths which i know is true.I have been offered a few boxes now but software was left long on them and they wanted daft money.So i have spoke to a person that lives near me and he is just selling the boxes brand new with no software on and the boxes are a cheap price as i have looked around.The guy told me cause it has no software on when i download the firmware and software the 12mths will start from then,could anybody tell me is this true.Also how easy would it be to install the software myself,as i use to have a dbox2 and had loads of problems doing the software on that and in the end,ended up paying somebody to do it for me.
and last of all whats the picture quality like on these boxes,as i did want the hd one but i been told its been discontinued,and there is a new one coming out in august thats meant to be really good
