usually on a pc its a 9 pin com port so why have you used the 25 pin plug ?

is it a very old pc with a 25 pin serial port ?

You usually get a timeout "update fail" " retry / Cancel " option after 30 secs or so , did this happen ?
Flash updating can be a bit finnicky at times , a 9pin -9pin null modem cable is what you want , although i use a usb - 9pin converter on mine , as it's a new pc and doesn't have a 9pin output .
When you do it mate , ensure you have the correct coms port selected , i always start my download from the pc first , then swich the box on , it works for me 9/10 times , without a second attempt .
      Hope this helps.

your laptop may have a 25 pin connector but it will be for the old printer cables and show up as lpt1 which is a parallel port , not a com port which uses the opposite plug and socket arrangement to stop you doing this incorrectly

so hopefully you havent damaged your laptop by plugging the wrong cable into the wrong socket

and yes you will need a usb to serial adapter that has a plug with 9 pins on it , then use your 9 pin to 9 pin null modem cable to connect from the adapter to the receiver
