    From another tech site

Not trying to get anyones hopes up, but I was at the fair this saturday and spoke to the trader who sold me my sv7.

He said dont get rid of your box whatever you do cos he has spoken to his supplier who told him boxes will be back on within two weeks.

    Reasons given:

People behind all this are too committed financially to let it all go down, there is currently over a million boxes involved and the stuff required to set it back up is being transported / set up as we speak.

I dont know about you but
    1. the trader is not doing any trade in boxes at the moment (although he is selling other stuff) and
    2. he wasnt in his interest to tell people to keep their old boxes and
    3. his supplier said all previous boxes will come back on so all we can really do is wait and see...

Jesus, Starview users, accept the facts and move on. Starview is dead. Time to open the curtains and let some sunshine into your life.
Nagra killed cable and now its your lots turns.
Starview will not be back after the weekend and it will not be back in a couple of weeks.

              not quite bob,
Nagra3 certainly slowed cable down to a crawl, but starview and kryptview worked around n3.
That said, kryptview users should start worrying, because if I were Dicky Branson, I wouldn't be stopping at starview

so if this is the case these new hd boxes will probaby need new f/w that probably wont work on the sv7, again if this is the case and the server dont come back for the sv7s it just shows you what sv are like aka dont give a ~~~~ about their customers, i hope im wrong and the peeps with sv7s get their server back, cant see it tho, i smell a rat with sv, i say to peeps bite the bullet with the sv7 and go with kryptview they are a lot more reliable, but either way c/s is a big risk, i said last year theres going to be a lot of trouble regaurding cable and c/s,( and i can see a lot more ahead ) you pay your money you take your chance with starview and kryptview.

Lets talk about the ip address this maybe a stupid way of saying it but my head doing lots of damage to me when I am thinking, because what I can not understand is when the old kryptview boxes were running before nag3 are now working with the new kryptview software and what bothered me is how the hell the old ip address was installed in the old kryptview for software to work after the nag3 can some 1 explain please?

It's all in the firmware, nothing to do with the IP. As a minimum the firware will contain the means to:

                          1) Communicate with the server, whether through the srever's IP address or through domain names.
                          2) Identify itself as a box sold by the server owner, perhaps a serial number in the hardwareor the MAC address that can be interrogated by the firmware
                          3) Receive and use the information back from the server to decrypt the channel in question

Really not rocket science at the end of the day.

On the other note pay servers will always end in tears for someone, since all anyone has to do is subscribe, obtain the IP and start the trace process at which point various laws within whatever country help trace the owner. At that point everyone is down.

Going back to Starview in particular with all teh talk of "someone will start upa new server soon, won't they?" If I were to start such a server up now then:

Why would I give all Starview owners the service for free?

Answer is I wouldn't, I'd want paying and the sellers of the boxes wouldn't pay me for the 44,000 already in existance. Company's, even illegal oness, arent' charities, they're in it to make a fast buck and ~~~~ the consequences for anyone who buys one if it goes wrong. Similar to drug dealers really.

                          Do enjoy.

Why does sellers have to refund the money to buyers when there is nothing wrong with the box only pay channels are missing because the provider got caught, when any organisation gets bankrupt or bank like the Iceland bank got bankrupt that the end it?s the chance you take in life. Suppose Branson got bankrupt I bet you will still ask the seller for the refund.

I didnt say seller has to refund anyone ( i said dont want to refund the buysers ) , if you sold loads of theses boxs and the phone started to ring , what you going to say to the buyers.
also there are shit sellers who knew the risks of the box and misslead the buyers ect .
