They cant trace your box cause they've got no talk back on like the original cable box i.e samsung + Pace.Comment

I feel the cable companies can and will fight back even more so this coming year
here is a thought for the techy guys, if you are on a minimal cable service, and the original installed box which will have talkback, is disconnected and a starview "the box" ior any other stb is substituted surelythe cable operator can try to contacttheir stb electronically over the cable, ad if they cant but cable ctivity is present to the premises surely this could cause suspicion and possibly a un announced visit maybe it would be better to connect the orginal stb from the cable company and piggy back the the starviewbox so if the cable company try to communicate with their box they will get a response i welcome comments back on this theory fro the techy experts on here many thanks in advnceComment

I agree totally about ensuring you connect your STB but then again some people have only the BB subscription and then run a splitter so in all honesty it's obvious that cable activity is there regardless of whether a box is attached.I feel the cable companies can and will fight back even more so this coming year

I Wonder if we havegot complacent
I agree
If only have a broadband service I think youare fairly safe but i you had cabe STB and downgraded and then substiuted a starview or any other STB i personally think you will be a Target if a blitz kicks off I personally will reconnect my samsung box and using a splitter piggy back my Starview The Box I think the members on here may benefit from a discussion on here withthe techies to see what tactics could be employed should C C blitz start
Better to consider the possibility.
comments fro you techies most welcome lease

Food for thought No such thing as an un planned call
hi all thanks for all the usefull replies .
i spent 13 years as a tv service engineer for a large tv rental chain, and if we wanted to gain access to a property to check our equipment, and our customers were not bieng cooperative the easiest way was to call unnounced to a house and if no one was not home , a service engineer would put a very small pin into the aeriel cable where it entered the house usually under the window it was a 10 second operation and killed all tv reception to that house, then just sit back and wait for the customer to call in and book a service call, and when we ent out on the service call we wou
ld discreetly remove the pin. on a similar tactic the cable operators would only have to reduce or limit service and sit back and wait for a service enquiry
Just a thought guys we are not dealing with idiots hereComment

Your other thread
Hi
I saw your other very interesting thread on the same subject at (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...e-think-19039/)
As far as I am concerned, I will be putting my cable splitter back on. I had removed it thinking it might reduce my signal and therefore I may lose some channels.
But as a subscriber to a basic package would they still bother to check the line.
Slightly worried DarMok.

Hi M8
I would say that if u had a bigger package (pardon the expression), and downgraded to a minimum subscription if i worked with a cable company i would want to know a bit more as to why and I would probably be suspicous, i dont think the problem would be that bad if you only had the basic package or just a broadband service I think we have to think like themComment
