    Girl teaches cow to jump

    Girl teaches cow to jump

A SCHOOLGIRL trained a cow to leap fences like a show jumping horse after her parents refused to buy her a pony,
Regina Mayer failed on her first attempt to train a calf on her family farm in Laufen, southeastern Germany, close to the Austrian border.
But she persisted and taught another cow to trot, canter, and jump. Hours of training have left Luna able to jump makeshift hurdles of beer crates and logs.
Mayer, 15, named the animal Luna after the cow who jumped over the moon in the children?s nursery rhyme ?Hey Diddle Diddle.? ?She thinks she is a horse,? Mayer said, adding that Luna responded well to commands such as, ?Go!?, ?Stay!? and ?Gallop!?
Mayer began training Luna two years ago, taking her for walks in the woods. She would lengthen the line attached to a halter as the cow became more comfortable.
The schoolgirl saddled up Luna six months after she began her bizarre experiment.
?She was really well-behaved and walked normally, ? said Mayer.?But after a few steps, she wanted me off her back,? she added. ?Sky News
