I think some would do that, it's natural human instinct.

Although I think I would say thanks to someone I disliked.

Irrespective of weather you like or dislike the person, you are using the thanks button to thank them for the content of there post or thread and not for a personal reason.
We all have disagreements with members over the context of some threads but this should not reflect in your opinion of other posts or threads.
So the answer should be YES thanks to the content and not the poster.

100% agree with both of you. Quality of post not poster! I don't have any issues with anyone on DK. Disagreements yes, but that is normal when you have two people using the brain. When everyone thinks the same, something is not right.

i dont dislike anyone on DK, have to say i would thank someone even if they critiqued me. useful critique is still a useful post and a different opinion can help balance your own.

                This.
Couldn't say it any better or more succinctly.

I would thank a poster if I thought the post was informative for me (as well as others), corrected me if I was wrong, funny or an open apology.

I don't think I would use a dislike button because I like to think of myself as an open minded type of guy. If I ever felt the need to hit a dislike button I think it would be time to leave that forum.

As with most forums the majority of the folk don't really know each other except from being on the forum so opinions can be made of people very hastily. Having said that I am a member of 2 forums that I have found are all encompassing of views and have very few fallouts, openly at least (this site being one of the two).

I have had a heavy? debate or two on this forum but never fallen out with anyone (at least I don't think so) and have also thanked those I was debating with even though I still disagreed with them as I could see their point of view because they posted it in an intelligent way. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and as such should be applauded so long as their view is intelligently put across, it is the idiots that don't know why they have a particular view that should be shunned by all as they tend to be the trouble causers in all aspoects of life.

If I have offended anyone by what I have just said... (just my opinion )

to be honest i dont think i dislike anyone here either and i dont think its right to dislike someone for what they think i also think you have to actually meet and speak to someone before coming to this conclusion
remember we might be familiar with most of the hardcore members
but i actually know very few to actually call or so
                    let alone know personally ...

                    ..and as for thanks button
it costs nowt to be polite and yes even if someone is not in agreement with me i still thank them for a valid point
                    in my opinion
the thanks button is probably the least thing you can do if you appreciate the sentiment or comment
and to add saves a lot of posts saying thanks ?

so IMHO it is polite to say thanks ...just how it should be

i agree most of the other posters, should use the thanks button for quality posts regardless of who they are.
i cant think of any member i would class as "don't like" on here either...

this works well in the general chat section, but in help sections things are slightly diffrent

if i post asking for specific help on summit, i tend to thank every member who has taken the time to reply.

i think it is common curtousy to thank anyone who has took the time out to try and help you.....

I think it would be fair to say, most ppl on here have had a difference of opinion with someone, some where along the line. It's only natural, and how we get to know one another to a degree. But to not thank a post that you find helpful or interesting or funny, because you didn't see eye to eye on a previous post, is just petty. And there are a lot of ppl who receive help and run along happy with themselves, almost instantly forgetting who helped them. But not to worry, you don't need a "thanks" to know you've done some good, but agree that it is just common courtesy.

ok heres my take on this, firstly it can be over used. someone posts blah blah and gets thanks wtf, secondly im not really happy when people put something like " if you like what i say hit the thanks button" do you need to beg for this? then why ask in the first place. im sorry i dont see the point myself if people want to thank you that's their decision. i look on dk as a place where its all about sharing and having a laugh with like minded folk, so what if you have 100,000 thanks, maybe im missing the point but dk is a place to chill out have a laugh and help if you can and learn about whatever floats your boat. and if you get thanked for something all well and good deep joy, i know dk gets leechers and trolls ~~~em!!
all forums get this, so be nice be happy ... im drunk and i dont think i will ever get another thanks on here but i dont really care its not that important to me
