Maybe it would be a good idea for the English to do something different to celebrate it? Then it might catch on? Don't ask me what though, but having a parade and going to the pub all day seems very St Paddy's to me.

Sorry for my cynicism guys but when the English talk of having a holiday for St Georges day (in the past) it has always been taken seriously in westminster but when there was talk of St Andrews day being a holiday it was always laughed out.

I am glad that most of you can celebrate your saints day and encourage you to do so but up here we still are semi ruled by Westminster and things like "holidays" still has to be ratified by Westminster so forgive me if I don't share in your enthusiasm.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong in being English ,Scottish, Irish or Welsh (and we don't celebrated St Patricks day any more than any of the others).

The point I made is that the government takes St Georges day seriously but not the others.

Be who you are yes but don't deny the others

And btw, have you actually seen who pays more in taxes...

                          Spot on mate.

& the number of times I hear.. "We celebrate St Paddy's day, but we don't celebrate our own day!" Well simple solution - don't celebrate Paddy's day is someone making you celebrate it? Forcing you to go to the pub, drink Guinness, where a daft hat and moan about "we do nothing for our day". It's up to you guys to celebrate St G's day, it if you want - not the government.

St. Patrick was a Welsh man but it don't hold us back from celebrating our National day.

He never even set foot in England, but St. Andrew never set foot in Scotland either.

At least St. David was a true Welshman and St. Paddy spent most of his life in Ireland.
