If yor a PSN user then best start to worry.

Sony has just released a public apology regarding the PSN downtime.
    your data has been leaked:
    • Your name
    • Your address (city, state, and zip)
    • Country
    • E-mail address
    • Birthday
    • PSN password and login name

Are all confirmed, your bank/credit card details are still unconfirmed (sony have skirted the issue and dont seem to like the question, this should make your arse crack perspire)
since Sony decided to store pretty much everything as PLAIN TEXT to avoid having to run extra cycles to you know encrypt your shit to keep you safe then id wager its fairly likely to be the case that SIX DAYS AGO hackers obtained all your shit. Enough that they can comfortably pose as YOU and buy several litres of petrol, enough to bankrupt anyone these days.

Also in question seems to be your purchase history, billing address (ie right to your front door) and secret questions.
So if your first pet was called benji and you routinely use the same username and password.... lets just say the bad bad men have a weeks head start on your shit.

The good news is that there are a mind-boggling amount of people compromised so six days head start to sort through the several million accounts will take these bad bad men a little time... unless they're smart like me and would sell that shit on to the Russians.
Hell the Russians know only code, they don't need food, water or sleep, just data. Like Jonny 5 they seem to feed off raw input. A week to those boys is like a century to regular people.

Its all ok though. Sony apologise for the inconvenience and have provided links to American fraud websites and hotlines... if your not American? Well then you can freely rotate on this middle finger apparently.

Just a heads up to any users who routinely use the same usernames/passwords/secret questions/address/email account or basicly draw breath during a day.
    Change your accounts pronto.
Cancel your bank details and credit card numbers and go about your day.
Get on the phone NOW guys and get your numbers changed, learn to fear and respect the ruskies!

If your like me and basicly cancelled everything with the advent of no psn due to cfw, then your awwwwwwright!

intentionally posted in Gen Chat (as opposed to PS3 forum) to get the biggest readership, figured it was important enough to warrant it

I wouldnt think theres too much to worry about, i reckon the hackers were just making a point with Sony. Sony flexed its mighty muscles and got shown that it wasnt quite as tough as it thought.
the Internet is the new battlefield and all the corporate money in the world wont let you throw your weight around.

Sony warns of almost 25 million extra user detail theft

Sony has warned that almost 25 million extra gaming users may have had their personal details taken in a hacker attack.

On Monday, it had taken the Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) service offline.

Sony said the user data issue related to SOE and emerged as it was investigating the problems the company faced.

Last week, Sony admitted that the personal details of 77m Playstation users may have been stolen by hackers.

                        'Cyber-attacks'

In a message to its customers, Sony said: "We had previously believed that SOE customer data had not been obtained in the cyber-attacks on the company."

However, it added that "on 1 May we concluded that SOE account information may have been stolen".

Sony was quoted by the Associated Press (AP) news agency as saying that the latest incident occurred on 16 and 17 April.

This was earlier than the larger Playstation user security breach.

Sony said that during the most recently discovered security breach, details of non-US users were compromised.

It explained that the direct debit details of almost 11,000 customers in Austria, Spain, the Netherlands and Germany were stolen, as were the credit or debit card details of some 13,000 non-US customers.

                        Broader investigation

According to Sony, the information taken included names, addresses and passwords, as well as the numbers of the credit and debit cards, their expiry dates and security numbers.

However, Sony added that the information was encrypted.

Spokeswoman Taina Rodriguez was quoted by AP as saying that there was no evidence as yet that the stolen information had been used for illicit financial gain.

The suspension of SOE, which is based in San Diego, California, was announced in brief statement on its website, Station.com.

Multiplayer games including DC Universe and Facebook-based Fortune League were unavailable as a result.

"We have had to take the SOE service down temporarily," the company said.

"In the course of our investigation into the intrusion into our systems we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern for us to take the service down effective immediately," it added.

                        Powering up?

The company had previously said that it would get the Playstation network up-and-running again this week.

It said users would see a phased re-introduction of gaming, movie and music download services.
Playstation Network has been unavailable since 20 April.
