elric ive been doing a lot of reading and made a batch on saturday
all you need to get started is this BREWFERM Fermentation Bucket 30 Litres Graduated With Airlock Tap And Bottle Filling Stick

you will then need a thermometer Thermometer 12

and a hydrometer Hydrometer Cylinder 100 ml Glass Trial Jar

then all you need is a beer kit like this Coopers Original Lager Australian Lager 1 7 Kg

then mix a bag of sugar in with it you can use normal brown sugar from the shop
heres an online tut on how to do it all its as easy as making a big bucket of coffee just keep everything clean The HomeBrew Forum • View topic - The "OMG I don't want to screw up my first brew" how to.

also if ya do decide to do it make sure you either have lots off beer bottles to fill or else you will have to buy some for a batch you will need 45 500ml bottles

also i bought a capper for capping them seems the easiest way http://www.homebrewwest.ie/twin-leve...lack-338-p.asp and buy caps to from them

this kit can all probably be bought a lot cheaper in the uk in a bulk kit or else you can make your own drum etc

also watch this guys videos there very good he will tell ya exactly what you need to do to brew beer and wine [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAJKWCdaPq4&feature=relmfu"]Home brewing the easy way part 1 - YouTube[/ame]

My advice is to buy a lager kit, you get a tin of whats supposed to be all you need apart from sugar .... but this is basic lager and might not taste that good...
i prefer to replace the sugar with either 50% light malt extract, 50% brewers sugar ( dextrose ) thats 500g of each, add this at the first stage when you add your lager kit..

or for better results get an extra tin of 1.5kg of Malt extract BRUPAKS MALT EXTRACT 1.5k - Home Brew Kits, beer kits, wine kits for Beer Making and homebrew Wine Making at HopandGrape.com

i go for pale extract for lager.

leave fermenting for 1 week, then siphon off to a 2nd ferment er , where you can add extra hops, i make a hop tea bag ( called a muslin bag, just add a handful of hops , and tie the end with a piece of string, i also put in 2 heavy stainless spoons to try help it sink.

the hops i have tried are SAAG for my lagers, but i have some different ones on order, including stella hops , i also tried chinook hops for IPA

boil the bag, string, spoons before adding to the brew.

leave for a further 2 weeks before bottling.

make sure everything is thoroughly cleaned and sterilized and rinsed , always rule number 1

bottles are much better m8, i promise.. when you need to do the cooling down period, its easier to put bottles in the fridge , not many fridges can fit a keg...

elric from what ive been reading most people who use the kegs go back to using bottles as its so mush easier and actually less time consuming

also i think its illegal make your own vodka etc
i no it is in ireland ya would want to check the laws where ya are

also if ya do decide to make it either legally or illegally theres a fair smell from it so ya wouldnt want to be to near any houses etc

also its very easy to make a still never mind buying one get most of the parts for free
                            father in law has one

ive come across this on a local homebrew site about brewing spirits

It is illegal to manufacture spirits in the UK without a distiller's licence which is required under the provisions of section 12 of the Alcoholic Liquor Duties Act 1979 and this includes manufacture for "own/domestic use". Public Notice 39 - "Spirits production in the UK" dated April 2010 provides further information about HM Revenue & Customs' requirements. If you require further assistance then please contact the National Advice Service on Telephone 0845 010 9000 or HM Revenue & Customs: Home Page Where you can obtain & view Public Notice 39

forgot to say im might be getting a homebrew set up wine and lager
