    Family tree

I am doing my Family tree and I was wondering if anyone knew a free web site to find births, marriages etc in the UK.

Searched the web, when they say 'free' you are directed to a credit card registration, so not free at all

    Thanks in advance

I think most of the better sites operate a credit system, 5 credits to view a birth certificate, marraige licence, etc. and it costs you to get credits, not sure, my dad is into it quite a bit.

3 have 3 apple tress in your family, installed before was born HTH

think if you use ansestery.co.uk you can enter card details, be quick, and ~~~~ off before you get billed, BUT it is worth the money if you are into that shite

amazing how quick you can find somebody from 100 yrs ago

ALWAYS EACH SESSION LOOK FOR YOUR OWN BIRTH, SOMETIMES IT NOT WORKING

          family trees

Hi - I've got the vast majority of my info from the internet free! Though there does come a point when going to a records centre or central library or graveyard is essential. I've been helped by a number of people whose trees have intersected mine as well.

          Some starting points

          FamilySearch.org - Search

          GENUKI: UK & Ireland Genealogy

Local BMD, UKBMD - Births, Marriages, Deaths Indexes & Census Transcriptions Online for UK Family History and Genealogy

          Ancestry Message Boards

Don't bother investiing in a family tree software package - MS Excel (or equivalent for OpenOffice - free) does just as well, use the cell borders for lines.

          Hope this helps

          Michael

as im adopted i went through to the general registrars office in edinburgh many years ago to trace my birth mother etc. it was a fee at the door then you could browse through as many as you wantd.

you can get familytree maker2011 from Demonoid(reg open at moment) but the free one from familysearch is just as good IMO just not as flashy
