Carpenter?

Jesus was said to have been a carpenter but what the ~~~~ did he ever do to warrant such a claim?
I didn't take too much notice in scripture class but from my memory, all he ever did was nail two bits of wood together for his own crucifixion - something that was expected of all those to be nailed up whether they were a carpenter or not.
A carpenter that's the son of God and all he can manage is to nail some wood together? Carpenter my arse!
Also, he didn't have a piano or a singing sister so how the ~~~~ was he a Carpenter?
It doesn't make sense. I'm starting to think that this whole Jesus business is nothing but a pack of lies.

there is nowhere that says jesus was a carpenter or that joseph was, the greek word used "tekton" means worker or laborer (where we get technician from)
it was a mistranslation , given the number of trees in palestine a carpenter would have a pretty idle time,
also the shepherds mentioned would have had a tough time feeding sheep in palestine where goats are more common, suspiciously in greece where the gospels may have originated trees and carpenters are plentiful and sheep and shepherds are common
