Need help to find some stock control software

My sister has a shop, but she has no idea on stock control & management... Sales & marketing... etc.

I've decided to look into setting up a laptop with stock control software used with a barcode reader. I can get hold of the barcode readers easily enough for less than ?30, but the software is a ~~~~ing fortune for a small business.

Looked at the Wasp stock control software among others.

If someone can find what I'm looking for in either torrents of cracks it would be a massive help.

It will need to be able to scan stock in/out with unit cost, sale price & profit reporting.. basically any of the software packages out there will do, I've just had problems finding any for 'free' (ahem!)

Will also need some free standing software for creating barcodes. Don't fancy trying to make them with DTP software.

    Here's hoping for happy times

    Update

Think I've solved the barcode problem... Free barcode generator
Although I'd prefer to have a program on the laptop instead of a web based solution

    Bump.

Cheapest I've found so far is from Losoftware

It's not ideal, but the price is right. Just need to order a barcode scanner to check it does work the way I need it to.

Thanks to SouthernComfort for the PM's with software suggestions

If I could spend that much on a single license I'd be going for the Wasp system.

But it gives me something else to play with & see if there's a crack for it.

My point is I have downloaded it years ago and been using it without a licenece ever since, just when you start the software it asks you to buy a licenece but dosent stop working fully.

I'm digging this up from the depths of hell as it's really pissing me off.

It's possible that the last two days of sweating in ridiculas heat & not sleeping properly due to demented dogs doing their best to mentally disturb me.... has possibally shortened the fuse a little when it comes to working out how to use this software.

But if I can't figure it out when I'm tired & stressed, there's no chance for the idiots that will have to use it every day.

So, I'm looking towards creating a data base with MS Access & doing the whole thing with a 'No guts, No glory' attitude.

Just one problem... I don't have MS Access. If someone could point me to a source that won't ask for my money, I'd be mighty grateful.

The barcode scanner I ordered came today. The instructions on setting it up scared the shit out of me. But it works as is. Any software that takes keyboard input will accept the scan.... Sweet.

                Update

I am a retard. I do have MS Access on my PC, just didn't pin it to my program list. Just need to work out how to use it now.... will probably take up F1 driving for Lotus within a week, I'm sure it will be easier than this.

I'll give it a go, it could just be what I'm looking for. The Losoftware package was a nightmare to try to operate. They claim you can take out or modify it to suit your needs.... No you ~~~~ing can't. I had to create purchase orders before I could scan in stock. Talk about time consuming.

Could do with a second or third opinion about the following.....

You will also need a free MySQL database and an Apache web server installed and running. The easiest way to do this is to install XAMPP downloaded freely from theApache Friends website. Make sure that both are running as services, so that they start running each time you boot up your computer.
Will this need internet access at all times or does it have ~~~~ all to do with the internet?

Is there a security risk involved?

There will be no internet access on site so depending on the answers it could be make or break with this.

No internet access required, just runs the database server on your pc. No risk at all. Bit of a faff to set up but seems well thought out and it's free!!!
