    Shares

just wondering if and Dk'ers know the best way to buy small quantities of shares nothing major just an odd ?100 here and there and not for quick sale just to bank as interest rates are 5hite

i have read numerous sites some seem very cheap but then you have to pay them to hold them for you every month or quater

i am after cheap and minimum fees

    any recommendations?

I've used chelseafs.co.uk since the banks started screwing us, you can invest a lump sum or a monthly set amount in a share ISA. tax free. Shares are a long term investment so if you may need your cash go for a cash ISA.

I use iii.co.uk to buy/sell shares. Takes a week or so to set up an account as they send passwords and stuff via snailmail. I think it's operated by the Halifax. They have good discussion boards too and their email bulletins are pretty decent.

I think your stocks and shares ISA allowance is ?10,340 or something close to that. Cash ISA allowance is around ?5,300. Not all shares are "ISA'able" but if you find a good share that allows you to put it in your ISA, you're laughing.

I think iii charge ?12 per transaction, can't 100% remember. No other charges after that.

Online banking usually has a section for share trading, depends on your bank though.

If you're interested in penny shares, have a google at "red hot penny shares".

Http://www.shareprice.co.uk is excellent for live share price streaming and they have a great iPhone/android app.

The ISA allowance is now ?10,680 for all investors as of 6th April 2011.
It is now possible to invest up to ?10,680 in a Stocks and Shares ISA, or up to ?5,340 in a Cash ISA with the balance (up to ?10,680) in a Stocks & Shares ISA.

I get charged about 1% for setting up and admin. for this I get six monthly summery and newsletter advising on the poor performers, which I can swap on-line.

If I was to buy individual shares I would go for those that pay good dividends but they are pricey.

But as the saying goes only invest if you can afford to lose.

I've been thinking of buying some shares lately, a few banks have cheap shares at the moment, that will surely start to rise in the near future,
I've also been looking at Penny shares, has anyone else dabbled in these.
            Code:
            http://www.pennystocksshares.co.uk/
did you get any shares "thered", and if so how are they doing,

Trouble with investing a small amount, ?100 say is the charges as a percent of your investment. 12.5% in this case. I find it better to invest a bit more to bring this percentage down.
I use TDWaterhouse. There is a ?12.50 charge everytime you buy and sell, and a yearly charge if your account has less than ?7000 in so it is not great if you intend to invest small amounts.

As Devilfish says, Http://www.shareprice.co.uk is a good place to go. I like the chat side on there with people giving tips and news on a particular share. Although take advice with a pinch of salt.

My Tip is Shaft Sinkers SHFT.L I have made a little profit so far, but I feel there is more to come.
                Good luck!
