    jaguar or woolies

i know both are american owned, but they are both as british as rampant imperialism.
my question is, with the government looking set to bail jaguar out of its current financial crisis, Jaguar Land Rover Investment: Tata Motors Back British Car Company Ahead Of Government 'Bail-out' | Business | Sky News.
should it have done the same for woolies?
what does the british public use more? woolworths or jags?
I for one think that woolworths should of got a bail out instead of jag, but what are your views?

Yep I agree but your state car isn't made by woolies is it, we will miss it when it's gone. I went in today to buy gift tags for my pressies because thats where I've always got them and there was none, it left me snookered I'll tell you. So does anyone know a high street retailer that does gift tags

I think woolworths would have hit trouble eventually without the crisis. The place is expensive like the whsmith stores in train stations except everthing it sells looks like it belongs in a pound shop - and it doesn't carry alot of magazines (got a couple I can only ever seem to buy in there).

Not sure if I support the Jaguar bailout, it has less employees but I would imagine ther're mostly full time employees who work there as a career as where WHSmith probably employs a huge percentage part timers. Thats just an assumption though, but if it were true it's not hard to see why they would be hit harder losing their job. I would also be interested in seeing how much money they contribute to the economy when they are in a healthy state, that would be important.

Not sure how far we can go bailing out companies. the banks i guess needed to be or we would be in deeper poo. But they helped to get themselves into that situation and now we have amny other thinking they deserve a bail out, where will it stop. I know its somebodies job that is always on the line, but the UK now has more debt than when WW2 ended.

Jaguar and landrover are owned by Tata which is Indian, the yanks got shot of them in Feb/March 2008.. But as you say they are British motoring icons. Tata have just chucked a bundle of money at them though but how long will that last..

Not so much that we use in the country is British owned.. A lot of the steel, coal, BAA airports, Abbey bank, gas and leccy companies, train operators, so many are foreign owned but when they get in the poo jobs here will be lost.

Its a headache to think about it to be honest. I would not like to make the decision, I don't own a jag (can't afford one and do not blow that much money on depreciating assets), nor did i shop in woolies i found them to be too much of 'jack of all trades and master of none'.
