    News International Phone Hacking

I've never really bothered too much with the constant phone hacking of Rooney, PM's et al.

However with the recent hacking claims of Milly Dowler and families of 7/7 etc. and the withdrawl of advertising by Ford and others form NI's papers it's hit home to me how out of order the whole industry is. Basically News Of The World want to sell papers, and that's cool. But to have the potential to sell newspapers out of conversations between Milly Dowler's father (and say his brother) is a disgrace. It's easy to boycott the paper, it's a bit more difficult to stop buying an Orange phone if they refuse to stop advertising with NI.

Am I going overboard? Should we, the normal person in the street, do something about, or just accept this is the way of the world.

    absolutely dispicable.

whoever was involved should be jailed. they tampered with evidence, and the paper should be boycotted and left to rot.

    mick.

Sadly I can't imagine for 1 moment that the Sun, News Of The World is gonna suffer from people not buying. But it's as simple as that. Don't buy their papers and then the likes of Orange (and all the others that are sitting on the fence) would very quickly have their minds made up for them.

British are a load of to**ers when it comes to these things. I don't know if I read on this forum or elsewhere, but if we were to all, and there's the problem, I mean all, boycott Shell for a week (or how ever long it took) just watch their prices come down. Then do it to BP, then Jet. The inconvenience to the public would be in the main non existent (of course some companys have Shell cards for their staff etc).

No we'll all say OMG how could NI be allowed to get away with it, and very little else. Jailed yes, out of business would be the best solution. Hit them where it hurts

There is a difference between listening to someones conversation when you are trying to prove that an MP is spending our taxpayers money whilst trying to get their secratary in to the sack - and listening to conversations of worried relatives, friends and family of murdered people and then deleting messages to make space for more messages. One is in the public interest the other is absolutely despicable.

The thing that I cannot believe is that MP's from the first investigation only really believed that it was contained to certain individuals - it was obvious to me and any other person with common sense that this has been going on for years (at least last 10) on any big story.

Surely now though the paper will be close to financial ruin. Lots of people won't buy it, advertisers have pulled out, there will be a flood of compensation payouts - and hopefully the british public wont forget how low this paper stooped.

Nearly forgot about the paying police. Lets hope that the police dont forget about the police taking bribes and that every single officer who took money is sacked - that will probably not happen - but it should.

You see there lies the problem. Who decides what is considered the difference. To my mind NI creates news rather than reporting news. It has to be that listening in on someone's conversation without their knowledge revokes their ability to trade as journalists. Make it law

Yeah - I know where you are coming from - but I do feel MP's and people like that who are up to no good are legitimate targets. Only because the police cannot investigate them without them knowing, so that leaves some unscrupulous """reporter""".
