Chinese importing, what to import?

I have a friend in China who wants to work for himself. Obviously there is opportunity here for a business importing from China to Europe. The problem is what to import. I will handle this end.

Problem is what to offer. Satellite boxes, electric vehicles, batteries, phones, car diagnostics, the list is endless and I think the means to success is to offer good communications, warranty and so on. This shouldn't be a problem having me at this end.

So, the question.

What should we import?

Keeping it legal of course

Satellite decoder, specifically Dreamboxes have a problem being copies but as an example I am sure that the actual maker of these things in China would have no problem renaming the box and removing all reference to Dream Media giving you just a satellite decoder that is legal to import but with the same capabilities.

Laptop/netbook batteries...........low shipping costs, high profit margin and a good recession seller.

The obvious Satellite boxes, R4 cards, etc are already part of a saturated market.

Electrical appliances are a good seller but offer higher shipping costs in bulk.

I know a guy that know a guy's sister's mate that imports a lot from China

I import Dr Dre Tour earphones from china and make a massive profit on each one. There are highly in demand atm

I did wonder about offering a personal "I will get you anyting" service to people, I don't knwo anyone that does that. People can find things they want from Chinese sites but often are put off by teh potential loss of money when nothign arrives or it breaks under warranty and crap like that.

How are you going to sell the stuff. If you are doing mail order or ebay then why import, just dropship it's far easier and cheaper.

Tons of peeps do it on ebay and from their own sites, done it myself for years.

You just take the orders and pass them onto him for dispatch to your customer, you take a share of the sales fee. I've seen peeps on ebay double the wholesale cost and get it for a lot of things.

Soon their won't be anything made in your home country meaning no jobs that equals no money to by imported goods. Why don't you come up with a plan to manufacture something go out and look for investors and seek tax brakes from the government to start this business. Governments love to pay when you say you will create jobs. No matter what you choose good luck.

Wolfpack you make that sound so easy and sadly our govement is not flinging money in to making jobs instead they are pulling out on projects and so on causing job losses.

To creat and manufacture a product such as a electronic product then its going to mean a lot of money going in to it even if you can get grants and so on to start up.

Importing makes money for our nation if people go about it the right way and pay taxes and vat.

Our goverment needs to get its act together, it needs to create jobs and it needs to start spending money to make money.

Have you ever tried to get something made in this country? I have and it is unbelievably difficult. These "tax breaks" you talk about are a joke. You cannot get any help worth having.

I suppose you don't have anything made out of the UK in your house or are you a "do as I say not as I do" type.

It is too late for what you are suggesting and in my opinion, I have already brought more wealth into this country than my fair share which, of course, has resulted in more than my fair share of tax to be wasted on speed cameras and other really society improving devices like barristers and spin doctors.

I don't want to be given advice on how to improve the country, I know what this country needs sadly it is too late because it is full of people that are too willing to give others advice and not use that advice themselves. Please don't fill this thread with crap about this country needing, it's a serious thread about a topic I would like advice on.

cost is what it is all about buyers dont give a ~~~~ where it comes from they just want the best price

my tip for selling is find a niche market

fake gear is the one profits are great but clothes and mobiles ect are all hammered to death and people want name brands cheap 95% know there fake but dont care

you will get caught though and be barred from selling with the possibility of being left with a mountain of stock

also clothes and mobiles ect are hammered at customs be prepared to get them siezed or any other thing that is branded

you need unbranded items but another tip do not get things that even just look like iphones because you will be banned for selling them scour china sites and ebay for something unbranded you can make small profit on regularly with no hassle

the fakes all come at a price and you will get caught if not from the manufacturer from the other 1000 people on ebay selling the very same thing

Hey i wasn't saying you were going to do anything wrong and i wasn't putting you down. All i was doing is suggesting a different way. You make alot of valid points that the government has sold the people down the river for a small amount of people to make alot of money. Manufacturing makes a country great once it's gone so does being great.
